🔎 Today, we're revisiting a recent blog on the recently revised Ecodesign framework designed to make products sold in the EU more reusable, repairable, upgradeable, and recyclable. ♻ It is development designed, as Italian lawmaker ALESSANDRA MORETTI noted at the time, "to put an end to the ‘take, make, throw away’ model that is so harmful to our planet, our health and our economy." ✅ In the blog, we take a look what the regulation is, what happens next, and what actions organizations should be taking. 👇 You can read the piece in full at the link below: https://lnkd.in/emd77yjV #ESPR #Ecodesign #Sustainability #Manufacturing

EU adopts new Ecodesign Regulations 🔄 This is a significant enabler for accelerating the transition to a #circulareconomy in the EU. It addresses the issue at the design phase, where it should be! "With the ecodesign regulation we create the right incentives for the industry to think circular from the very design conception of the products they plan to produce and sell in the EU." - Pierre-Yves Dermagne The new regulation introduces new requirements such as: ➡Product durability ➡Reusability ➡Upgradability and reparability ➡Rules on the presence of substances that inhibit circularity ➡Energy and resource efficiency ➡Recycled content, remanufacturing and recycling ➡Carbon and environmental footprints ➡Information requirements, including a #DigitalProductPassport. Industry must comply within 18 months, which really means you need to start now! Any companies wanting to get on the front foot, reach out to our team or jump onto our Impact Academy. ⭐ Regulation Update ⭐ At the end of last year, the provisional agreement for the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation was passed meaning the EU parliament will now have to formally adopt the new regulation. Once adopted, the regulation will enter into force on the 20th day following its publication in the Official Journal. What is Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR)? The proposal suggests the regulation will create rules for designing products in a more eco-friendly way. These rules will cover various aspects, such as: 1. How long a product lasts and if it can be reused, upgraded, or repaired. 2. Substances that make it hard to recycle a product. 3. Using energy and resources efficiently. 4. Using recycled materials. 5. Rebuilding and recycling products. 6. Measuring the carbon and environmental impact. 7. Providing information, including a Digital Product Passport. _____________________________________________________________ **Quick Summary** What does the ESPR aim to do?: Make sustainable products the norm in the EU Products affected: These rules will apply to almost all types of things sold in the EU whether produced inside or outside the EU, except for some items like food. Timeline: Unclear but will be soon. The Provisional agreement was passed on 5th December 2023. How to Prepare: Start measuring the environmental footprint of your products using Life cycle Assessments. ___________________________________________________________ CarbonBright specialises in conducting Life cycle Assessments, email us today contact@carbonbright.co.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) Senior Project Manager | Circular Economy Consultant | Founder and Co-Director of the Footprint Initiative
Loved this article prepared by Anthesis Group, specially how they address a question I get in my clases: how to prepare to the ESPR? As mentioned in the article: ✔️Keep a watching brief on the progression of the proposal; ✔️Consider engaging a specialist to help you identify your risks and opportunities; ✔️Conduct lifecycle assessments of your product portfolio; ✔️Prepare to change the way you make, manufacture, and market your products; ✔️Prepare to change the existing processes for collecting, managing, and transferring product-related information within your business and across the supply chain. As the article well mentions this is applying to EVERY product that is meant to be sold in the EU, and it’s a matter of time for something similar to happen in the US. This is a game changer to stop greenwashing and a door opening for more LCA and CE projects! Cheers! 🥂
