As India decides its electoral fate tomorrow, let us not forget some really concerning issues facing our country right now: climate change, rising unemployment, communal violence, inflation, and the many many other problems that have wrecked the country. Not to forget all this impacts the rural poor, and marginalised communities the most. At Behanbox, we have felt that #Inflation is a key issue that we as journalists must keep bringing to light, especially how it's affecting #women and their households. Govt data shows that my home state #Assam's inflation rate of 6.08% is higher than the all-India rate of 5.09%. Two months ago, I spoke to Minoti Das, a single mother of two, and one of Tinsukia, Assam's few e-rickshaw drivers who had found a sense of freedom and mobility in her new job. We must not be indifferent to what has been going on around us in our society or country or glob. it's our humane responsibility to express our feelings and concerns .It's not fair to always harp on self goals and become selfish every time by the words of success. A few lines in the people on the other side of the coins the swamy side should be reflected by every successful person .How much one can do for the distraught poverty stricken fellow citizens around us is really an indication how one should be measured in one's success index the world is sharply divided and everywhere the weaker sections are trampled by private players .if the foid and shelter and a home can not be assured by any govt the meaning and significance of governance of the people for the people and by the people falm flat with very sarcastic sense of politics. Corruption grows stronger every moment there is an aud for the people or country .In fact these the corridors to mount wealth for self goals . it's seen that govt employees are mostly corrupted .When the govt itself is corrupt and open it's financial institutes for private players the scope of corruption is among the decision making officials .increases and Ministers just ignore that as they too are a party to that practise .The wealth of the nation is pilfered and given to our favourite business institute at the cost of the nation .. This is the of affairs in India which is really perturbing .Despite being a religious country in the true sense, our rulers here don't mind doing the most inhuman irreligious and selfish execution while making any policies for the people who voted for them to power . it's a grave sin ..Sinful acts of our present rulers cannot be washed away . There is a disturbing trend where Indians ( read the names of them from newspaper) are randomly killed in a particular country. They are mostly students. In the majority of the cases, culprits are not apprehended. There is a message to Indian government in these target killings as India foreign policy does not align to that country interest. Next level of escalation will be NRI's of that country. Leaving your country for better opportunity by taking loans, abandoning your parents and siblings, uncertain future, then coming back in coffins. Revaluate your priorities and be safe.

One of the strong reason observed in families, communities & society under lower class & middle class people is that these people are not getting direct benefits like subsidised rates of cylinder, food supplies, electricity & water, healthcare, etc. During one of my personal conversation with someone from my family member, person has voted to Congress because of below reasons - 1. Common man is facing lot of distress due to high inflation 2. They don't know what program is present government running for everyone & what are their advantages 3. Jobs are not available for everyone 4. Corruption & bureaucracy 5. Direct benefits are not transferred to end user 6. Roads & Highways, Ram Mandir, Big statues & buildings, high-tech system & other such things are of no use for common man, but they need availability of dal roti everyday, normal education, basic infra on road and all things which were there 10 years ago 😒 They don't bother who is fighting, who is getting converted, what benefits India is giving to other country, how we are maintaining relationships with neighbouring country, other general points. I strongly believe, we need to reset ecosystem, make strong laws where benefits will be delivered to person who needs.

This has led to a shameful reality where 99% of elected officials are billionaires, while 70% of the population lives in poverty, struggling to receive basic necessities. It is appalling that the political leaders who receive high salaries and benefits do not pay taxes, while the common people of India have to pay taxes on every penny they earn or spend. The funds extorted from industrialists by political parties result in a hike in product prices, which the people of India have to bear. It is frustrating that political parties are dishonest and are only concerned about filling their bank accounts, leading the people of India to beg for basic needs from the government. It raises the question, as to why Indian parliamentary members, who are billionaires, still require money from industrialists. The answer is simple, political parties do not want the people of India to become empowered and successful, and they do not want to be questioned. Those who dare to question the government policies are being silenced and jailed, like Natasha Narwal, Devangana Kalita,Sharjeel Imam, Umar Khalid and many more are booked under UAPA. Regrettably, more than 90% of Indians are struggling to make ends meet while industrialists and parliamentarians are spending billions of rupees on lavish weddings. This is a dire situation, and We the people of India need to raise our voices against it.

Indian politics is in a very bad state. There is a lot of corruption, nepotism, and dynastic politics, the power game of money and muscle in politics is often fueled by nepotism. Many parties are dominated by one family, and these families have been in power for generations. They are often corrupt and irresponsible, and they have been involved in many scandals. The problem with dynastic politics is that it creates a system where only a f ew families have all the power. This prevents new ideas and fresh faces from entering the political arena. It also leads to a lack of accountability, as the ruling families know that they will never be voted out of power. Another problem with Indian politics is the use of caste and religion to divide the people. Politicians often play on people's fears and prejudices in order to gain votes. This has led to an increase in communal violence and an atmosphere of intolerance in the country. The result of all this is that the common people are suffering. They are not getting the basic necessities of life, such as good education, healthcare, and jobs. The government is also not doing enough to address the problems of poverty, inequality, and corruption. It is time for the people of India to wake up and demand change. We need to elect leaders who are honest, capable, and committed to serving the people. We also need to put an end to dynastic politics and the use of caste and religion to divide us. Only then can we create a better future for our country.

Why does the poorest man in the Indian state of Maharashtra still spends 20 percent of his earning on tobacco and alcohol instead of food or education? Does the rich man remain richer only because he has more privilege and access to better education, healthcare, and better housing? Why would a man in India who does not have enough income still buy a television rather than saving the money for future needs? A week before this, General Elections for the largest democracy in the world – India – have begun. Two prime national parties have published their manifestos. Both are promising 2 different India. As expected, the major difference lies in their approach to religious and cultural rights, reservation and that will always be debatable. However, one of the similarities in both manifesto is the promise to uphold the rights of poor and measures in improving their conditions. For that matter, every political or national party will make promises in the election to improve the conditions of poor. Common measures are distribution of freebies - Free food, free electricity, free land or homes, free transportation and so on. Remembering the reading from Poor Economics where authors Abhijit Banerjee and Duflo have raised above questions, they have argued that most of the anti-poverty policy has failed over the years because of an inadequate understanding of poverty and wrong selection of appropriate measures for poverty eradication.  In my personal opinion, the freebie culture is not a road to prosperity of poor but can be the road to fiscal disaster. Being poor can be luck or due to circumstances but one continues to remain poor by making poor choices. Poor Economics is ultimately about what the lives and choices of the poor are. The good government helps them in making these day-to-day micro choices. More is lost in indecision than the wrong decision. Freebie takes away the ability of decision making. They can make poor people lazier and indecisive and often into habit of less saving. Pro-poor public welfare is not about mere distribution of freebies. Its about focusing and increasing the employability and enterprise skills, quality of education in government funded schools, better infrastructure in schools, adequate healthcare staff with guaranteed quality healthcare and so on. India has always been a saving culture. but the west has eventually converted Indians into a consumerism mindset. Our ancestors had the habit of financial prudence, of postponing their needs, of saving money first and then consuming... In the Last 5-10 years the idea of consumerism has seeped into the indian youth so much so that now most of the youngsters are borrowing money to buy things. Loans are now available for almost everything. Even a 500 rs article is now being bought on EMI. This is a shift from one end of the spectrum to another. This to my mind is very dangerous and puts many people into financial vulnerability. Social media show off/ easy loan through online apps, etc are some of the things driving it. This can possibly be the reason for next big crisis. Consumer loans given without much underwriting diligence. A single economic downturn can lead to millions of people into delinquency.
