Spreading Threads Clothing Bank is one of 51 nonprofit organizations to have been awarded a 2023 CORE Grant by the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (CFSA) to the tune of $30,000. “This is a huge grant for Spreading Threads Clothing Bank and we can’t thank the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona enough for including us as one of this year’s grant recipients,” said Michele Wright, Co-Founder and Executive Director for Spreading Threads Clothing Bank. “This grant provides us with $30,000 in flexible working capital to allow us to expand our impact on foster children, adoptive children, and children living in kinship placement as well as the families supporting them. Right now, with the cost of living increases and inflation, many families need all of the assistance they can get and this grant from CFSA will help us to fill that need even better than before.” The CFSA announced in May 2023 that it awarded a total of $1,225,000 in general operating grants to nonprofits that are working to positively impact and improve the quality of life for those living in Southern Arizona. This is the largest grant round in CFSA’s 43-year history. "Some of us can afford to support some part of the vast network of charities that of one our former presidents called 'a thousand points of light.' Those points of light are best seen, like stars at dusk, against a darkening sky." - Timothy Snyder, On Tyranny Being on LinkedIn, we are the ones who "can afford" even a small gift to benefit our most vulnerable neighbors. One of those thousand points of light is HumanKind, a non-profit serving the state of Virginia that believes community well-being starts with a solid foundation for EVERYONE. As you think about your year-end giving, please consider even just a $35 gift to support our First Night Backpack program for children transitioning into Foster Care. When kids are removed from a home, they often only have a few moments to throw a few things into a trash bag. They arrive to a new home with possibly not a single personal item. Take a moment to really let that sink in. Your gift would help a kid to transition into safety during such a tumultuous and confusing time. Being able to have a few essentials and the ability to carry them in an overnight bag, allows them a sense of ownership and dignity that they may not otherwise have during this time of instability. Your gift will also be DOUBLED due to a matching sponsor if you give by 12/31! Double your impact FOR A CHILD today. https://lnkd.in/e4eCHTh3

When you support Christopher's Kitchen, you're helping families get a basic need taken care of - food. When families are in the hospital, or when there are children at the Child Advocacy Center getting help, the last thing they should worry about is where their next meal will come from. With big decisions to make and heavy emotions to carry, something as simple as a meal or snack can help them carry on. #ChristophersKitchen #Charity #Nonprofit #UPMCChildrensHospital #Pittsburgh #FoodPantry #Volunteer #GivingBack #Donate #FamilySupport #ChildhoodIllness #CommunityService #HelpOthers #Philanthropy #ChildHealth #ChildhoodCancer #PediatricHospital #ChildrensCharity #HospitalSupport #FoodBank #GiveHope #KidsHealth #FamilyCare #PittsburghCharity #ChildLife #ChildrensHospital #HealthyEating #ChildhoodDisease #FoodDonation #SupportLocalCharities

Success as a nonprofit is all about community partnership! We were provided the opportunity for a donation of 20+ suitcases (and a full tub of toiletries); which, is not our exact "lane" when working with foster youth; so, we brought them to the amazing OCJ Kids for foster youth aging out of group homes. OCJ Kids fills the suitcases up with all kinds of necessity items that youth need as they transition from foster care and journey into adulthood. #fosteringheroes #fosteringheroesfoundation #partnership #partners #nonprofitleadership #nonprofitorganization #nonprofits #fostercare #fostercareawareness #fosteryouth #fosterchildren #fostering #nonprofitsuccess #nonprofit #nonprofitorganizations #nonprofitwork #nonprofitgrowth #nonprofitimpact #givingback #communitypartners #communitypartnership #communitypartnerships

Operation Care is another non-profit organization that makes a huge impact in Shelby County. Many people know them by their storefront, The Encore Shop Thrift Store. If you’ve ever run into me in person, I’m most likely wearing clothing from this store! But what I didn’t know is how much more there is to this organization. Jennifer Decker, executive director, was able to share with our Leadership Shelby group exactly what those thrift store dollars go to support. Transitional Housing- This housing is for women and children who need a place to go for a variety of reasons. While here, education is key! Operation Care comes along and helps them find education/employment; addresses mental, spiritual, and emotional needs; creates a mentorship environment; provides education and training to the children; and helps resolve pending legal issues. The Encore Shop- This is one of the biggest ways that the ministry funds its endeavors. Donations from the community are encouraged, and they are resold in a Christian shopping environment. They even host community Bible studies at the store on a weekly basis. Mercy Medical Clinic- The clinic is located in downtown Shelbyville, and serves uninsured community members. It is staffed by volunteer medical professionals, and addresses both medical and dental needs of the community. The even have a certified pharmacy for their patients! How can we help? When asked this question at our round table discussion, Jennifer Decker responded with one of the most profound statements on volunteerism. “I’ve told you what we do, but I don’t know what you’re capable of doing.” She doesn’t necessarily have a handful of specific “job descriptions” that she is looking to fill. She has an organization run by volunteers who are gifted in a million unique ways. So she asks you and me to pray about it. How are you feeling led to serve the community? What gifts, talents, and resources have you been blessed with that could benefit someone else? Then talk to her, and maybe you have a fresh new way to volunteer. And I think many organizations would agree. The best volunteers aren’t necessarily the most qualified, but the most willing to use what they’ve been given.
