S/4HANA Development Transformation Expert - Strategy, Execution and Governance in Managing Custom Code

I lost my senior title when I moved from SAP Ireland to SAP Germany but I was really happy about it. I got promoted to a Senior Support Engineer less than two years into my SAP career. Was it justified? I think so. I worked really hard to earn it and just like for many people at the early stage of their SAP careers, it was extremely important for me. But, soon after, after having been with SAP Ireland for three years I decided to get rid of it. Decided to get rid of it? What the hell, you might ask. Well, when I moved to SAP Germany, I was offered the choice - “here is the package we are offering you - you can choose if you want to remain a senior or get dropped down to mid-level but the salary will be the same either way.” And I decided to become mid-level again because I knew that the best pay rises come with promotions. So I stuck around, after having been demoted to “just a normal engineer” again and when the time of the next round of promotions came - I proved my value and got the senior title back, with a nicer hike than I would have received, if I had stuck with the senior title. So, the title doesn’t really matter that much once you have a few years of experience on you - it’s all about the value you bring to the table (and equally as important - the bank transfer you receive at the end of each month) Should I have become a senior with less than 2 years of experience? What would you have done in the above case? #SAP #SAPCommunity #S4HANA #SAPCareer

There are few things which one should consider when taking up a job offered according to me: 1. Incoming Amount should not reduce (Very Important) 2. You should love what you do. 3. Titles are just to keep one motivated If you fulfill all 3 and you know you would grow more in next 2-3 years irrespective of title. One should take it. I am currently in similar situation as you were. I was working as Senior consultant and in my current role I took it up as a consultant keeping the above 3 points in mind. Only difference I got a pay raise. End motto is always money if you are earning same or better with the same amount or less amount of work its a win win situation. Also i took it as my aspiration was to continue to work as a Consultant and not go towards managerial roles.

Good move Mateusz. Not all demotions are failures. I too became a junior FI consultant in 2018, after serving nine years into end user roles. Within a span of three years into SAP I regained my pay and title.

The companies killer is not the balance sheet neither the P&L but just a simple cash 💴 flow

Job satisfaction is far more important than titles or money. I remember when I started freelancing and I had no profile to show for my Python skills so I worked for free for the first month to show the client what I could do.
