Exploring the Power of Hand Tracking in Automotive Innovation: In today's fast-paced world, technology continues to reshape the way we interact with the world around us, including our vehicles. One remarkable innovation that has gained significant attention is hand tracking in automobiles. By replacing traditional buttons and knobs with intuitive hand movements, gesture control revolutionizes the driving experience. In what ways can hand tracking enhance automotive safety? With safety being a top priority in the automotive industry, it is crucial to examine how hand tracking contributes to safer driving. By reducing the need to physically touch buttons or screens, hand tracking minimizes driver distractions and enhances focus on the road. Additionally, advanced sensor technologies detect intentional gestures, ensuring precise and accurate responses and mitigating misinterpretations. However, as with any technology, there may be concerns or challenges to address to ensure a smooth and secure user experience. What safety benefits do you see in hand tracking? How can we address any potential challenges to maximize the safety aspect of this technology? How do ‘old school’ OEMs like #Ford need to adapt, to survive in an increasingly competitive market? In our next #Ostmodern Q&A, we sat down with José Alves, Interaction Design Director at #FordDesign, to talk about the huge changes facing the #automotive industry. #Digital #transformation within traditional industries is something we've experienced in our work with broadcasters and publishers, the automotive industry has many similar challenges and some that are subtly different. The design process in manufacturing complex physical products can feel at odds with the more iterative and organic process of digital product development. When the physical and digital come together for the customer there are lots of new design problems to solve to ensure a good customer experience. We'd like to thank José Alves for taking the time to discuss the exciting work they're doing at Ford and the role we've played in augmenting his team to provide digital product expertise to support them in launching new innovative solutions into the commercial vehicle industry. The data has been there for ages - glad to see that the glacially slow car industry is catching up with the prevailing understanding. The way car hardware purchasing lifecycles work, if a carmaker is making a big bet on something, it may take years for them to work out any tooling or component changes they made to their vehicles even if the big bet turns out to be a bad idea. UX + human factors in automotive is always living in a weird state of limbo: high risk, slow speeds.

Over the past years we have been tasked to work on in-car experiences for multiple OEMs — the established ones as well as the new kids on the block. My colleague Paul Woods wrote whitepaper outlining a few learnings and innovation drivers to spark conversations on UX, safety and physical knobs and much more. Having in mind that vehicles — shared or owned — are only one element of a trip from A to B they continue to be important and a lot of them could need some change, too. Now. 😎 #automotive #mobility #edenspiekermann
As the automotive industry races towards a fusion of vehicles and tech, the race is on to design in-car UX that users love as much as their phones. Carmakers must cut through the noise of short-lived fads and chart their own path through the increasingly complex UX landscape. Where to begin? Our 2023 whitepaper outlines the key factors driving in-car innovation. #uxdesign #uidesign #automotive

Bonus content from the FixedOps UX, guest David Boyle is linking dealers to access to fleet sales of electric bikes from eBliss Global, Inc. Dave is challenging dealers to think about the broader needs of the consumer, fleet managers, business - all of which need a transportation partner. Very interesting conversation that has opened my eyes to new ideas the modern dealer is considering. Nicolas Roope’s interesting article talks about the digital transformation happening in the car industry and how Renault are getting it right. But his article is also a call to arms for system thinking in general and not being stuck seeing only the trees and missing the woods. Myopic focus can lead to missing out on opportunities to improve your services and products. Digital transformation gives one the chance to connect and provide a myriad of benefits to your customers in new and exciting ways. Disruption, with well mapped out and planned impact, is the key. https://lnkd.in/d3t-q3tp #servicedesign #ux #cx #systemsthinking #impactmapping #digitaltransformation
