*Explore: How the force sensor works*
The operating principle of force sensors is based on the piezoresistive effect, that is, a change in pressure leads to a change in resistance value. When a component is subjected to pressure, its resistance value changes. Therefore, the amount of pressure can be deduced by measuring the change in resistance value.
In force sensors, semiconductors such as silicon and germanium are commonly used as piezoresistive materials. When the sensor is subjected to pressure, positive and negative strains are generated in the patch area, where the strain gauge is stretched or compressed, resulting in a change in the strain gauge resistance value, creating a voltage difference, which generates a mV voltage signal corresponding to the pressure value.
