💥 The "Why" Behind Quality: It's Bigger Than You Think 💥 Ever have one of those days where you question your career path? ♂️♀️ Those moments hit me regularly in my 30 years in quality. Even a Chief Quality Officer at a massive company confided in me that the "you must be crazy 🤪" stereotype rings true sometimes. But here's the thing: the answer lies in the passion for quality management. It's the unwavering belief that things can always be improved, that tomorrow can be better than today. This drive is what keeps you going, especially when the company culture aligns with your values. ⏳ Even facing long days as a lab technician, I take pride in the work done and still use those brands today. 🤦🏻 As a site quality manager, feeling unheard was a constant battle. Lets talk about R&D - QA or Development Quality Assurance and why it is required in R&D : 1. What is Developmental Quality Assurance (DQA)? Developmental Quality Assurance is defined as a combination of the Quality assurance with the Research and developmental activity which incorporates and ensures that the innovation meets the predetermined quality specifications as-per regulatory norms, and that the methodology, procedure, process will consistently fulfill the quality specifications over and over again. 2. What are the responsibilities of Developmental Quality Assurance department(DQA)? *Provide proper guidance on quality issues to the process development team. *Review the documents received from R&D, AR&D, etc. so that the same can be shared with authorities and customers. *Review the process change proposals and provide guidance on change proposals. *Prepare in-house expert reports/Quality overall summary (QOS). *Ensure proper stage gate compliance at every stage of product development. *Conduct internal audits properly. *Review the developmental reports and other documents. *Inspect quality till the exhibit batch stage. *Ensure smooth scale up of the new product. *Carry out proper documentations in labs as well as plants. *Document all the procedures. *Responsible for overall quality of organization. *Assure quality by design, i.e. ensure robustness of product and process. *Qualify resources and give them approvals.

Consistent #quality thanks to uniform laboratory conditions! Imagine getting a product complaint even though you have a strong quality assurance setup. In one case, a supplier’s pride was shattered due to a temperature control incident in their Indian lab which led to incorrect tensile strength test result which compromised the product’s integrity. 🤷♂️ This is not an isolated incident. Unclear environment conditions often affect lab results and can lead to expensive consequences. Industry standards set specific climate parameters, but maintaining these conditions is not easy or cheap. We understand the importance of quality assurance. I have just completed the "Quality Assurance and Process Improvement for Clinical Trials" online skills-building seminar through Research Progression. Through the quality assurance and improvement process, I have learned the importance of meticulous attention to detail and rigorous testing to ensure products and processes meet or exceed established standards. This process has also taught me the significance of continuous monitoring and feedback loops to identify and address potential issues early on, ultimately leading to improved efficiency and customer satisfaction. Additionally, I've gained insights into the value of collaboration and communication within a team to foster a culture of quality and foster a commitment to continuous improvement. Overall, quality assurance and improvement have taught me that excellence is not a one-time achievement but an ongoing journey that requires dedication and adaptability. #ClinicalTrials #QAQC #datamanagement

💡 The Cost of Quality "Quality is doing the right thing right the first time and every time. It is cheaper to do the job right the first time than to recover from an error." This is what Philip Crosby said about quality. However, we must accept the fact that QUALITY IS NOT CHEAP! We have seen many clinical laboratories try to reduce the cost per test without paying much attention to the cost of quality. Quality costs include both attaining and missing the desired level of quality in a service or product. When a lab ignores quality costs, they often end up spending more money later to fix issues. There are four types of quality costs: PREVENTION, APPRAISAL, INTERNAL FAILURE, and EXTERNAL FAILURE. Labs should focus on Prevention and Appraisal costs because they are beneficial and support quality. A lab that develops and validates tests properly will have a lower chance of receiving complaints from clients, thereby avoiding dissatisfaction and the cost of failure recovery. Additionally, labs should streamline processes, write effective documents, and improve training, measurement, monitoring, and improvement.
