Celebrating International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Today, February 11th, we stand together to honor the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a day set aside by the United Nations to celebrate the indispensable roles that women and girls have played—and continue to play—in the fields of science and technology. Today is a powerful reminder of the progress we've made towards gender equality in science, as well as a prompt to address the ongoing challenges. On this day of reflection and action, I extend my deepest admiration to my friends and colleagues, the remarkable women in the tech and scientific communities. Your resilience, innovation, and excellence have not only led to transformative discoveries but have also laid the groundwork for future generations of scientists, engineers, and innovators. Let's also remember the trailblazers who have shattered ceilings and paved paths in their quest for knowledge and innovation: * Marie Curie, whose groundbreaking work on radioactivity opened new frontiers in science and medicine, earning her Nobel Prizes in both Physics and Chemistry. * Ada Lovelace, the visionary mathematician who is celebrated as the first computer programmer, laying the groundwork for modern computing. * Rosalind Franklin, whose expertise in X-ray crystallography was crucial in deciphering the structure of DNA, a milestone in genetics. * Grace Hopper, a pioneering computer scientist whose innovations in programming languages have shaped the digital world. * Katherine Johnson, whose precise calculations for NASA missions were vital for the success of the space program, as highlighted in the film "Hidden Figures." * Chien-Shiung Wu, a physicist whose work challenged fundamental theories and expanded our understanding of the natural world. These women, among countless others, have demonstrated that gender is no barrier to making significant contributions to our collective knowledge and well-being. I am thrilled to participate in the 9th International Women in Science Day, celebrating the achievements of women who have made significant contributions to the world of science. This day serves as a catalyst for promoting diversity and inclusivity in science, emphasizing the importance of creating an environment where women are encouraged to pursue careers in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Currently, only 22% of women are in Artificial Intelligence, highlighting the need for increased representation. Today, I had the honor of presenting to a class in Palo Alto, sharing insights into my professional journey, why I entered the field of science, and how I established my business in the Bay Area. The discussion revolved a lot around AI technology, including questions about ChatGPT. Empowering the next generation of female scientists is crucial. Initiatives that provide role models and showcase diverse career paths aim to bridge the gender gap in science, and I am proud to contribute by bringing my piece to the puzzle. By sharing success stories, best practices, and challenges, the international community can collaborate to create a supportive and encouraging environment for women in science.
