Thirty years through thirty stories! For our IWFM 30th anniversary celebrations, we found one person who started out in the sector in one each of IWFM’s 30 years. So if it’s 1996, it’s Simon Ball; if it’s 2005 it’s @Claire Page, and so it goes. It’s a chain of interviews from 1993 right through to 2022, in which all are asked: • What got you into this work? • What was it like when you started? • What’s changed? • What’s most affected your work? • What was your biggest frustration, and what is it today? • What about the work you do today would most surprise your former self? Along the way, you'll find our thought-provoking thirty name check their inspirations, professional pet hates, key personal achievements and more. Here's the link back to our first contender, Marilyn Standley (BIFM / IWFM’s first chair - an outlier in this exercise, as she'd been involved in the sector prior to her appointment.) Enjoy! https://lnkd.in/eHDihyx6

On Brailey Day, commemorating the indomitable spirit of Louis Braille, whose innovative system transformed the lives of the visually impaired. Braille: Empowering the Visually Impaired In the early 19th century, Louis Braille, a French educator and musician who lost his sight as a child, revolutionized the world for visually impaired individuals. His invention, the Braille system, opened new avenues for learning and communication. 1. The Braille System: Braille is a tactile writing system composed of raised dots arranged in cells. Each cell represents a letter, number, punctuation mark, or even a whole word. By running their fingers over the dots, users can read and write Braille independently. 2. Accessibility and Independence: The Braille system has been a game-changer, providing visually impaired individuals with the means to access information, literature, and education independently. It's a powerful tool that fosters equality and inclusion. 3. Global Impact: Adopted worldwide, Braille serves as a universal language for the visually impaired. Its global impact has made it an essential component of accessibility, breaking down barriers and ensuring that information is available to everyone. 4. Brailey Day: Every January 4th, Brailey Day commemorates Louis Braille's birthday. It's a day to celebrate the resilience of visually impaired individuals, recognizing the transformative role Braille has played in their lives. Brailey Day is an opportunity to appreciate their achievements and highlight the importance of inclusivity. 5. Inspiring Success Stories: Despite visual challenges, many individuals have achieved remarkable success. From accomplished musicians to prolific authors, the world is filled with inspiring stories of those who have thrived, proving that talent knows no visual boundaries. On Brailey Day, let's celebrate the brilliance of Louis Braille and the positive impact of his invention on the lives of millions. It's a reminder that accessibility and inclusion are fundamental rights, and Braille continues to be a beacon of empowerment for the visually impaired. #BraileyDay #InspirationForAll #maramcompany

Embracing a Healthier You in 2024 Prioritizing Physical and Mental Well-Being As we step into the promising realm of 2024, it's time to set goals that truly resonate with our well-being. Amidst the hustle and bustle of professional and personal life, it's crucial to make self-care a non-negotiable priority. This new year, let's embark on a journey to nurture both our physical and mental health. 1. Establishing Mindful Habits In a world that moves at an ever-increasing pace, mindfulness becomes our anchor. Consider incorporating simple yet effective practices like meditation or deep breathing exercises into your daily routine. These moments of stillness can significantly contribute to reducing stress, enhancing focus, and fostering a positive mindset. 2. Nourishing Your Body from Within A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Explore and adopt a nutrition plan that aligns with your individual needs and preferences. This isn't about strict diets; it's about cultivating a sustainable, balanced approach to eating. Hydration is equally vital. 3. Prioritizing Regular Physical Activity Exercise isn't just about sculpting the body; it's a powerful tool for mental well-being. Find an activity that brings you joy, whether it's yoga, running, or a group exercise class. Regular physical activity not only boosts your mood by releasing endorphins but also contributes to improved overall health. 4. Setting Boundaries for a Healthy Work-Life Integration In our dynamic work environments, setting boundaries is often overlooked. Make a commitment to delineate work and personal time. This could mean logging off at a specific hour, designating tech-free zones, or scheduling regular breaks to recharge. Striking a balance between work and personal life is vital for long-term well-being. 5. Cultivating Meaningful Connections Human connection is a fundamental aspect of our well-being. In 2024, let's prioritize fostering and maintaining meaningful relationships. Whether it's spending quality time with loved ones, connecting with colleagues beyond work tasks, or joining communities that share your interests, building strong connections contributes to a robust support system. 6. Seeking Professional Support When Needed Acknowledging that it's okay to ask for help is a strength, not a weakness. If you find yourself struggling, consider reaching out to mental health professionals. Seeking support is a proactive step towards nurturing your mental health. Let's embrace the opportunity to invest in ourselves. Prioritizing both physical and mental health isn't just a resolution; it's a commitment to living a fulfilling and balanced life. 🎇#NewYearNewYou #WellBeing2024 #HealthGoals #WorkplaceWellness Find out more about Virgin Active South Africa's Workplace Wellness Programmes and Offers email: marieke.welman@virginactive.co.za Marise Collins Therina Labuschagne Musa Mahlasela Jason Grippa Prince Ncube Camilla Bergman

Each weekday morning, my family takes the time to have breakfast together. It's a routine we began in December and haven't strayed from yet, and it's become a powerful force in how we start our days. Today, we took turns answering questions from handwritten cards. They ranged from the silly (Who is your favorite cat and why?) to more thought-provoking (What is something you want to accomplish in 2024?). At one point, Jason Applegate, my business partner and husband, drew a card that asked, "What is something you've done that makes you proud?" His answer: "Creating our business, Extol Media, and celebrating its 10th anniversary this year." According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 50% of businesses fail by their 5th year. Year 10? That climbs to 65%. This year certainly has its share of personal and professional challenges ahead, but we are also poised for it to be the most successful and momentous. And, thus, this morning we started talking about taking time to celebrate it and those who have helped us along the way. It's funny: We produce ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, and grand openings for clients regularly – it's one of our favorite services. Yet, we have never taken the time to host a celebration for Extol. We hit the ground running a decade ago and never stopped. As my team tosses around ideas of how we're going to mark our 10 years in business, I'm curious: What work-affiliated celebrations have been the most memorable for you and why? **By the way, the photos is of my 8-year-old Olive, my heart, my motivation, my greatest gift. #workanniversary #10years #extolmedia

Memorial Day weekend in the U.S. is the unofficial start of summer -- so please, slow down your messaging! From Memorial Day to Labor Day, people want to check out from their information consumption. You probably have team members taking much-deserved breaks, too, so this is the time to post less and instead focus on optimizing the content you do produce. Take a campaign or two off the calendar. Cancel that unnecessary "Happy Flag Day!" post. Redirect your energy to making the content you do post on-brand and culturally relevant, promote the heck out of it, and relax a little. That's what your audience will be doing, too. #memorialday #corporatecommunications #contentstrategy #editorialcalendar #culturalrelevance #summer

What’s in your pocket? If you’re like the 8 year old I was reading about in a social media post, you’re carrying emergency confetti. Emergency confetti? [Yes, I can see your quizzical eyebrow raise 😉] When asked why she was carrying confetti in her pocket, the young girl answered: it’s my emergency confetti, I carry it everywhere in case there is good news. The good news is that we can all carry some metaphorical confetti in our pocket (or real confetti, if you’d prefer 😁) for these moments. The research supports what we intrinsically know about the importance of recognition, positive feedback and celebration in the workplace, in that it is a key factor behind higher retention, engagement, and motivation. Despite this, we also know there’s far too little of it going on. What say we all fill our pockets with a little emergency confetti ready for those moments worth recognising and celebrating. Now there’s a change worth making, don’t you agree. #MakingChangeHappen #2023Goals #WorkplaceCulture #FeedbackAndRecognition Written by Leanne Gordon - Changing Futures.
