Liebherr launches hydrogen ICE-powered loader in Austrian demo. By Charlie Currie Liebherr has unveiled a hydrogen internal combustion engine (ICE)-powered large wheel loader in a live demonstration in Salzburg, Austria. Taking place at the firm’s plant in Bischofshofen, the prototype machine – L 566 H – is powered by a reciprocating piston engine manufactured at Liebherr’s engine plant in Bulle, Switzerland. The heavy-duty machine manufacturer said although battery-electric solutions could be suitable for vehicles up to 15-tonnes, hydrogen ICEs “prove to be ideal” for larger machines with operating weights of up to 40 tonnes. https://lnkd.in/d7D5WBeg

Goal and guard rails must be set by the regulator. The solutions to get there must come from our engineers. That is my personal take away from an insightful roundtable at Handelsblatt’s Industriegipfel yesterday. Together with Tanja Gönner from BDI and Astrid Hamker from Wirtschaftsrat der CDU e.V we discussed what is especially true for off-highway vehicles our DEUTZ engines power quite a lot: We need an open-minded approach to technology. For engines that are in constant use and move large loads, several technological options – or a combination of them – are possible. Our engines power industries that are significant emitters of CO2. One million DEUTZ engines are currently moving vehicles and machinery around the world, on construction sites, roads and farmland. We are committed to use that potential to reduce emissions and make a difference. To do so, we need a quick transition to synfuels and HVO (where electrification isn’t an option) and not a decade-long discussion about the best allocation of alternative fuels. And additionally we need to push for charging infrastructure for both electric engines and H2. Thanks for a great event and discussion! #HBIndustrie

Because we in Krefeld do it the most #CO2efficient for such big parts in this world! We urgently need a perspective here to electrify the relatively small remainder of the primary energy based processes as well. And please, to all those who now supposedly argue, but actually have no idea of our handcraft, even what cost factor electricity has in our value-added process and then say : Electricity is cheaper now, isn't it? We're pleased to announce the completion of all pre-production activities and the commencement of fabrication for the H2Neo prototype tank, using advanced automation and robotic laser-welding in Norway. Our Prototype Tank and final Class Approval program are on track for completion in the June 2024 quarter. This milestone marks a significant step forward in showcasing the safety and performance benefits of Provaris' proprietary tank design, which utilizes carbon steel plates and an inner liner.
