𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗜𝗡 𝗕𝗘𝗔𝗨𝗧𝗬 𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗬 The beauty industry, often synonymous with glamour and luxury, harbors a less attractive secret: its substantial plastic waste. From shampoo bottles to cosmetic packaging, the sector contributes significantly to global plastic pollution. Each year, over 120 billion units of packaging are produced by the beauty industry, much of which is not recyclable and ends up in landfills and oceans. However, a shift is underway. Innovative brands are adopting sustainable practices, utilizing biodegradable materials, refillable containers, and even plastic-free packaging alternatives. Conscious consumers are driving demand for eco-friendly products, encouraging a wave of green beauty innovations. By choosing and supporting eco-conscious products, we can all play a part in creating a cleaner, greener future for the beauty industry. 𝗙𝗢𝗧: https://lnkd.in/eyRFurWv

Life in Plastic, Isn't So Fantastic.. 🙁🌍 Among the marketing campaigns and initiatives emerging from the recent Barbie movie, this one stands out as a personal favourite. Brighton-based sustainable design studio gomi have just launched a limited edition speaker range, and guess what they're made from?... Recycled Barbie and Ken dolls! Gomi's "Childhood Memories" speaker range is a brilliant example of turning waste into something valuable. It's even powered by recycled e-bike batteries. By re-designing discarded toys as functional speakers, they're demonstrating how creativity can contribute to a more sustainable future. 🌱 In a world where plastic pollution is a pressing concern, initiatives like this remind us that there's immense potential in repurposing materials and transforming our mindset about waste. Sustainable fashion specialist Lydia Brearley rightly points out that Gomi's approach sets a remarkable precedent for businesses to lead the way in embracing sustainability. ♻️💡 #recycledmaterials #barbiethemovie #sustainability #barbiemarketing

🌱 Embracing Sustainability: Giving New Life to Second-Hand Clothes ♻️ Great initiative by German Government 👏🏻. In today's world, sustainability isn't just a buzzword—it's a way of life. This image captures a simple yet powerful concept: a bin designated for second-hand clothes, waiting to be collected and recycled by the government. By choosing to recycle our clothes, we're taking a step towards reducing waste and supporting a circular economy. Each garment thrown into this bin represents a chance for renewal, where old items can be transformed into something new rather than ending up in a landfill. Let's continue to embrace sustainable practices like this, fostering a cleaner and greener future for generations to come. Together, we can make a difference. ♻️💚 #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #ReduceReuseRecycle #GreenFuture

As we all get closer towards the big gifting season, we are shouting as much as we can about the need for circular consumption. What is a circular product? If it follows these three principles, then it is considered a circular product. When shopping for anything, it's a good idea to check out what it is made from, then think about whether it will actually last for a decent amount of time, and finally can you, in your daily life, easily drop it in the correct recycling bin. Some thought and attention to these elements will help us all move to a more circular, sustainable world. It's a dirty business It was Global Recycling Day on Tuesday (March 18th) and it got me thinking about #recycling in the #beauty industry. Did you know that only 14% of #packaging actually make it to a recycling plant, of which just 9% is recycled (British Beauty Council). The rest ends up in landfills. Consumers are baffled about recycling guidelines. Research by Nivea found that 33% of UK consumers are confused about what can and can’t be recycled and this prevents them from recycling their bathroom products. Recycling is often considered a dirty business, hence the lack of information and standardised rules. Recycling symbols and labels can also differ from different countries making it even more confusing. As beauty professionals we should provide clearer instructions and educate people on how to recycle empty packaging properly to close the (beauty) loop and eliminate waste, with the likes of France with the Triman symbols. With re/sources, we bring you reports and consulting support on recycling, sustainability messaging or the future of sustainability in beauty, so instead of imaging it, you can build it, and market it properly! Join the movement…or book a demo. Theresa Yee Content Director re/sources

CEO @ Ganddee - the "Google Maps of sustainable shops" | TEDx Speaker | CXC Changemaker for the Planet 2024 | Climate entrepreneur 🌏 | Tech for Good | ReCommerce
The 4 most important things to know about the circular economy 1. Circularity is the only true way to have "infinite economic growth" on a planet with finite resources. 2. The countries you think are the "greenest" aren't circular. If we all lived like in Denmark, Finland or Sweden, we'd need 4+ planets to meet our needs. Many people talk about circularity, few people deliver. 3. Buying **new** things (even those branded "sustainable") isn't circular… Buying 2nd hand or repairing is, though. If we trash 10 "sustainable coffee cups" a day and buy 20 pairs of sustainable shoes per year, we're still off target and fuelling the linear economy... 4. Circularity starts at the design phase. Investing in the circular economy isn't about pouring billions to invent "technologies" made to recycle impossible-to-recycle things. Investing in circularity is about investing in products and processes that are designed to be circular (e.g. repairable-by-design phones etc). TL;DR: Circularity isn't about managing waste, it's about *not generating waste* in the first place. Thanks Tesco for giving us paper bags to protect the plastic packaging of our vegs 👍 #circulareconomy #sustainability #sustainable #circularity
