Tomorrow is the last day Hewett’s Shop in Monkstown will be open after 75 years of trading. Monkstown will be the lesser for their closing. David , Thelma, Sara, and the Hewitt family have been an intricate party of the village life , helping all those who need a friendly voice or local knowledge in their daily tasks. Enjoy your well earned rest 😄😄. Leo, Geraldine & the Harmon family.😘😘

Very sad to see, having grown up and lived more than half my life in Monkstown Hewett’s was always a constant and a great place to pop into to pick up a few things. Best wishes to all the Hewett family for the future.

Lovely words Leo Harmon. The Monkstown community was just as much apart of the shop as the shop was apart of Monkstown. Looking forward to mum and dads next chapter.

Ah No... Hewetts was such a significant part of my life growing up - I spent my pocket money on bags of Bon Bons, not to mention my Communion and Confirmation money there! We used to hang out there (bunking out of mass) on a Sunday! I think I may have be barred at one stage 😂 The shop and the Hewett family have always been part of the Monkstown DNA. You will be sorely missed. I salute you and wish you the very best ...thanks for everything. John

A staple of my walk to CBC! Best of luck to all the Hewett family and enjoy the well earned rest.

Best wishes from all in Irish Building Supply in Dun Laoghaire! Sorry to see a long established family business in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown area close after all this time.

We will miss calling into Hewetts! All the Hewetts made us and all the customers always feel really welcome over so many years! Do enjoy your well earned rest.

I'll miss popping in to get my Mojo magazine but I'll miss more the warmth and kindness and of course the chat. Take care and enjoy the next journey and the lie-ins. Well earned. Des and family

It is incredibly sad when part of a village structure passes thankfully here a retirement choice good luck in your retirement. Often though the closures can be avoided with a bit of joined up thinking from Government Local Authoities and the public spending locally.
