What I love about GitHub is our ability to relentlessly chase after the hard problems. Not for the sake of GitHub itself, but for the sake of the world’s developers. 🌍 This has driven us to incredible transformation over the last 16 years – from Git, to the pull request, and now GitHub Copilot. But despite all that has changed, our passion and drive for developers remain steadfast. I recently sat down with Scott Chacon at The Merge Berlin to talk about everything from the past, present, and future of GitHub to our momentum as the home for all developers. ✨

Save your brain for the good work. Seriously. 🧠 For developers, that’s building novel code. But this applies to everyone, regardless of industry. How can AI take on the mundane and enable you to do more? More coding, more ideating, more creativity – all of which are becoming a reality globally with the help of GitHub Copilot. I recently spent some time down under, and chatted with Marion Rae about how tools like GitHub Copilot are empowering our local customers to do more across the banking industry. As a former fintech dev, I couldn’t be more excited by Australia’s momentum and the opportunity AI presents not just their economy, but the individuals who fuel it. 🚀

Data literacy in the age of AI? Yes, ESPECIALLY in the age of AI. Despite the incredible tools at our disposal, you still have to start by asking the right questions. Knowing what to ask, uncovering nuances, and drawing connections is that spark we, as humans, bring to these machines. ✨ 🤖 Some really great insights here from DataCamp, highlighting the critical need for data and AI literacy in today’s workforce. I’ve been spending a ton of time with customers here in 🇯🇵 Tokyo, and if there’s one thing that rings true, it’s the belief not just in AI itself, but its ability to change the tide of Japan’s digital cliff. By 2025, outdated legacy systems and retiring engineers could lead to a 2% GDP loss. But with GitHub Copilot accelerating how developers understand, maintain, and migrate legacy codebases, this can change. When we let AI take the toil, we create space for innovation and growth. It's what enables us to seize opportunities, like the one here in Japan, to forge a new path and redefine what’s possible for developers and the economies that depend on them. 🚀

Kicking off the week of Galaxy Tokyo 🇯🇵 with Shelley McKinley and Elizabeth Pemmerl! GitHub's AI journey isn't simply for the sake of rolling out AI, it's to empower anyone – from the novice to the expert developer – to create, going from idea to code to software in one place: the home for all developers. So glad we got to give a glimpse into GitHub's near future and the incredible work happening across our teams to make it all possible. 🚀

This week, someone asked me "how can you possibly be keeping your head above water?!" I'm helping run a company, moving a dozen different initiatives forward, 20+ customers meetings in Sydney, Melbourne, Tokyo, and soon Thailand, and also enjoying GitHub Galaxy with hundreds of developers and administrators around the world. 🌏 My answer is an amazing collaborative team with Caroline Barnes at the helm as my Chief of Staff. We've been on the road for over a week and still have about a week to go. Not only is she an incredibly talented leader, strategic, and communications professional. She's also a talented woman in tech who shared her story about her own journey in this industry at two GitHub events while in Tokyo and Sydney. ✨ Folks like Caroline Barnes, Kezia Paghunie, and Nacuya Rucker help me tell GitHub's story to our employees, to the world, and keep ensuring the right trains are on the track and that the trains run on time. Each Friday, I write a thank you note to someone who impressed me and the week particularly great. This week (albeit a little late), I send an enormous thank you to Caroline Barnes. While we got to spend Mother's Day together and had as much fun as we could when you couldn't be at home, I know your little guy is incredibly excited to see you when you get back.
