Today is #worldmenopauseday and I am so grateful that I have been able to take the power of Breathwork to organisations and demonstrate to their employees how it can be a transformative tool for navigating the intricate journey of menopause. Yesterday I had the pleasure of delivering a session to Fujitsu as part of a menopause initiative arranged by Amanda Hammond and Nanda Sharma and today I am delivering a workshop for Pelican Procurement Services - An Avendra Group Company and Aramark UK arranged by Francesca Fowler (MHFA) By integrating breathwork into your menopausal journey, you're nurturing your well-being on a profound level. It's a practice of self-compassion and empowerment and can help with the following: 🔥 Hot Flash Relief: Breathwork techniques, like deep diaphragmatic breathing, help cool the body, potentially reducing the intensity and frequency of hot flashes. 😌 Stress Management: Menopause can be stressful, both physically and emotionally. Some Sunday/Monday Morning Inspiration from MyMT™ Health Practitioner, Charlotte, in Sitges, Spain. My registered CPD Menopause Practitioner course puts me in contact with wonderful Practitioners around the world. Personal Trainer and Health Coach, Charlotte Birch, who lives south of Barcelona is one of them. As a Women's Health Educator who has inspired thousands of Personal Trainers here in New Zealand to set up their business success over many years, it brings me great pleasure to do the same with many of the accredited Health Practitioners. I have a marketing module in the 12 week Health Practitioner programme for them. Inspired by the research on cold-water swimming for women's health in the menopause transition, she put up an advertisement for her new SAS group - 'Sunday AM Swimmers'. These 3 ladies turned up on the first morning, but once she put up a video, another 14 turned up the following week. For those of you who are interested in helping women to explore lifestyle science solutions for reducing the harmful, inflammatory effects that menopause hormonal changes have on temperature regulation in the brain, which also changes thyroid regulation of body-temperature, finding ways to reduce core temperature is important. Cold-water exposure is getting a lot of publicity as is 'grounding' or 'earthing' - which exposes the soles of the feet, (which are your ancient cooling mechanism), to the earth. This helps to cool the body and reduce inflammation. Keeping the body at a cooler temperature as we age, is a fundamental dimension of reducing inflammatory changes that accelerate as we move through menopause and into post-menopause. Cold-water exposure is one way to achieve this. For those wanting to lose weight, cold exposure also helps the 'shivering' response, which is known to turn harmful white fat (white adipose tissue (WAT) into more metabolically-active, brown adipose tissue (BAT). Yes, you read that correctly. So, a shout-out to Charlotte, who did my Health Practitioner course in 2023, and learnt all about the power of reducing body temperature to change hot flushes. I love how Charlotte has gained more midlife clients, simply by using the lifestyle science research to set up specific group sessions. She is also meeting more amazing women in her local community, who will, over time, benefit from her support and knowledge.
