It's a new year and the majority of posts you see are "New Year, New Me" vibes. Getting an idea of people's motivations for the year and how they're going to smash all their goals is great, but if you're looking for a new contract and not getting anywhere, it may put a dampener on that new year sparkle ๐ฃ Here's some tips for any job hunters out there... โ Make sure your CV is clear and includes the skills you have/ the projects you've worked on. I'd always suggest putting skills and qualifications at the beginning ๐ญ Check careers sites, not just LinkedIn and job boards. ๐ Apply for anything you genuinely think you're a good fit for - Don't be scared if something already has over 100 applications. If you can see who's posted the job, drop them a line or 2 letting them know you're interested. โ๏ธ Don't be afraid to follow up on an application. Something to note is that he is a recruiter. You may ask why a recruiter would be in the job search market when they should be helping other professionals fill roles. Very often I get DMs from job aspirants asking my help in finding you a job opportunity. Nothing wrong. Itโs your right to seek my support and itโs my pleasure if I can assist. But what goes wrong is this. You send me a message and CV asking me to help you find an opportunity from within my network. Now if I blindly forward your CV to my 30k contacts, here is what can happen. - For 98% of them your profile will not be relevant and even if they open my message, they could block me for spamming them. - For 1% of them, even though your profile may be relevant but they are not hiring currently. Once again I could become a spammer and no help to you. - For the balance 1% , if at all your profile is relevant and if at all they are hiring, they will see me as influencing their choice and worse still they will think you are desperate and look for better candidates. Does this mean you should not expect my support? NO, it doesnโt. Here is how I can support. - You do you research and identify say 10/20/30 people who could be your potential employers in current time line. - Send me a list of these people along with a solid reason as to why you would be a fit candidate for their present or potential needs. - I will write a customised message to them and connect you both. As we enter January and Q1, just a friendly reminder that I am still looking for a new opportunity. If you have any connections I should meet or companies you know I need to be in contact with, I would love an introduction and your referral. If you know me, you know I will not stop and I will keep at this until, success! I could write books on the last few months of interviews and last minute compensation and job requirement changes that occur in final interviews and I can only assume it's because there are so many truly looking and NEEDING an opportunity because of unemployment. Sadly, some are truly unacceptable and the companies aren't changing the job postings online. It's misleading and truly a disservice to those looking to dive into something great.
