Engineering Manager, Ubuntu Desktop

I was feeling a bit nostalgic today and decided to install Ubuntu Warty Warthog 4.10. What a walk down memory lane! I still can't believe #Ubuntu turns 20 this year.

For anyone following along, I also did an install of Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, which was my first release after joining Canonical

Can you do 12.04 next? I recall that as the first transcendent release

I remember seeing a screenshot of this in a PCWorld magazine (or something of the sort) as a kid and it was the first time I was clued in to the fact that there were operating systems outside of Windows and Apple’s offerings. That article kicked off a lifetime of love for what the Ubuntu and greater FOSS communities were working on.

Omg, I remember that. What a throwback! I was at the uni, when I moved from Windows to Ubuntu as my daily driver. I remember I was formatting/wipping my PC before each semester, to handle the load of that semester, or I would usually risk the PC breaking down in the middle of the semester, which sucked. After the move Ubuntu *never* let me down. Saved me hours of frustration! 😅 I went on to work/contribute as a translator a few years later. And, hopefully, will have the opportunity to help Ubuntu go further and further, at Canonical one day, who knows... Ubuntu's the real deal.

I use gnome-shell as my day-to-day and my work setup, because I don't think any of the other desktop iterations every improved on this "Gnome Classic" layout and menu style.
