Here's the bottom line: if you're running CentOS Linux in your business, you should be aware CentOS will no longer exist as a supported production environment after 30 June. That means that you will no longer receive security updates or critical fixes for your operating system. If you are currently using CentOS, it is important to start planning your migration to an alternative option. This could include moving to CentOS Stream, which will continue to receive updates, or switching to another Linux distribution altogether. Remember, it's crucial to have a plan in place before the end of June to ensure the security and stability of your business systems. Stay informed and take action now to avoid any potential disruptions. PM me if you need a hand. Keeping your Linux systems secure and running smoothly isn't rocket science. It boils down to five key things. Here's our straightforward advice from Tiger Computing: 1. Stay on top of security updates. Install them as they're released. We recommend reviewing each one first, but even auto-installing beats doing nothing. 2. Keep your Linux distribution current. Make sure you're running a version that's still receiving security updates. If not, it's time for an upgrade or a switch. 3. Set up comprehensive monitoring. Catch potential hiccups before they turn into full-blown headaches for your business. 4. Implement change control. At the very least, have a way to undo changes that don't work out. Trust us, you'll thank yourself later. 5. Back it up, test it, and keep it off-site. Your future self will be grateful when you need to restore data. Get these right, and you'll see rock-solid system availability and data security. It's that simple. Of course, having a dedicated team of Linux pros (like us) handling all this makes life a whole lot easier. Our Proactive Linux Support Contracts cover all this and then some. Curious? Let's chat: call 01600 404 270 today.

VMware has long been a trusted name when it comes to virtualisation. However, recent changes in licensing terms and cost structures have prompted many businesses to seek alternatives to VMware that offer both reliability and cost-effectiveness. In November 2023, VMware was acquired by Broadcom. Following this acquisition, Broadcom announced a shift from perpetually licensed products to a subscription-only model. Additional concerns have been raised about Broadcom’s plans to divest the VMware End-User Computing business. Reports of substantial price hikes soon surfaced with some users experiencing rises of up to “500 or 600 percent“. These changes were met with concern from industry observers and organisations alike, citing the increases as “massive and unjustifiable“.
