Our job is not as simple as just “chucking up a post” in order to gain an audience. From my experience building a viral algorithm is exactly like building a business. You have to start from the bottom up with almost the same amount of research. Look at your demographics, sociograohics and psychographics. Instagram has it all there for you. Also, the location of your audience is vital! Posting in the morning (uk time) will mean you will reach American’s when they wake up in 5-8 hours and Australians who are just going to bed. It takes the same amount of maintenance too. Too keep your algorithm you need to follow the Instagram rules which change on a monthly to bi-monthly basis. I started consistently posting content on my platform everyday in February. It took me 3 weeks to hit instagram’s sweet spot in order to push me onto a viral algorithm. From there it’s a reward system. The more consistent you are and the more you stick to instagram’s wants and needs…the more likely you are to go viral. For example, in February it wanted me to post 3 reels a day and only use 3 hashtags. Whereas in May it was sticking to the time stamp of less than 10 seconds. If you stop for two days in the midst of your rise the platform will punish you. In the first 3 weeks I eventually went viral. After posting every single day. However, the viral reel had only hit the algorithm on the 3rd day of being online. Before that it had recieved 934 views on a platform with 20k followers. It’s now at 24.8M. After this I continued posting boosting other reels to 14M and 1.8M with average views on other reels of 100k-250k. Just because something has gone viral it does not mean your content will automatically go viral. It’s an unrealistic expectation. It takes work….in depth research and hours of scrolling to find viral sounds too.
