🔒 The Cyber Resilience Act is undergoing fine-tuning at the European Union Council level 🙄 With changes made to reporting obligations, highly critical products, and product lifetime, #manufacturers will be obligated to inform national Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) about cybersecurity incidents or vulnerabilities, shifting the responsibility from ENISA. 📄 The Act also introduces the concept of highly critical products but removes explicit references to them. 🤖 The expected product lifetime and assignment of responsibility for connected devices are also addressed in the Act. Opinion: The Cyber Resilience Act represents an important step in enhancing cybersecurity across the EU. The shift of reporting obligations to CSIRTs improves coordination and responsiveness. However, the removal of explicit references to highly critical products may impact clarity and consistency in certification schemes. Manufacturers must consider the expected product lifetime and prioritize security updates. The Act's enforcement and guidance from market surveillance authorities will play a crucial role in effective implementation. The Cyber Security Agency (CSA) is very active in the policy area at present in a drive to highlight the importance of cyber hygiene for critical digital services. This is pertinent in areas such as: Water, electricity, and banking which are critical to peoples day to day lives. The CSA refers to this as Critical Information Infrastructure (CII). The amendment to the Cyber Security Act 2018 looks to include areas of cyber security which is focused on management and oversight. The amendment to the bill will expand the oversight provisions of the CSA as well as create two new classes of regulated entities which will be subject to light touch regulatory treatment. This is a good objective if the skills and resources are available to be able to extend to the additional classes and ensure that they are also compliant with the new provisions. In summary the amendments grant more rights to the CSA to enforce stricter behaviours of entities that are responsible for delivering critical services. The execution strategy and plan will be important to ensure appropriate education is provided with regards to changes in the cyber risk landscape, and what initiatives must be taken to mitigate the risk of cyber attack. https://lnkd.in/epKbyZ7d #cyberecrime #csa #singapore #cyberdefence #technologyrisk
