World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO released the Global Innovation Index (GII) “S&T Cluster” ranking and 4 S&T clusters of India made it to the list of the top 100 clusters. The reports mention that S&T clusters in India, particularly Bengaluru and Chennai emerging as hotspots of inventors and scientific authors. The report also highlights that emerging economies such as India are experiencing rapid growth of science and technology clusters. India is currently framing its deep-tech-policy. The first draft is now out for public consultation. National Deep Tech Startup Policy (#NDTSP) is about to be released. Govt of India released the draft policy in Jul 2023 that identifies 9 priorities and 80+ interventions across various areas to address unique challenges in the space and bolster deep science innovation in the country. Here are the key provisions in the policy: > Objective: Fostering #DeepTech #Startups in #India This initiative serves as a robust framework tailored to address the unique challenges faced by deep tech startups in India, with a focus on implementing strategic policy interventions. > Empowering Technology #Commercialization: Forge Collaborative Partnerships: Facilitate seamless collaborations between academic institutions, research labs, and industry players to amplify the commercialization of deep tech innovations. Establish Commercialization Offices: Set up technology commercialization offices within academic institutes and research labs to streamline the process of bringing innovative technologies to market. Guidelines for Research Commercialization: Provide clear guidelines for the effective commercialization of research outcomes, particularly those funded publicly. > Open Science Data Sharing Initiative: This platform is designed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders, aiming to promote innovation in deep tech through the exchange of scientific data and insights. > Boosting R&D Expenditure: Recognizing the pivotal role of scientific human resources, this initiative aims to enhance research and development (R&D) expenditure as a foundational pillar for cultivating a skilled workforce. > Streamlining Intellectual Property: The goal is to establish a unified #IntellectualProperty (#IP) framework tailored for deep tech startups. After a successful year, we are officially kicking off the second annual program of CALL4INNOVIT, inviting Italian startups and SMEs to participate. 🚀 This opportunity focus on Generative AI, Robotics, Hardware and Advanced Materials, Life Science and Digital Health, Green Energy, CleanTech, ClimateTech, and AgriFoodTech, Fintech and Insurtech, and finally Space Economy. I am thrilled to share that I have been promoted to the highest level of External Lecturer at the Technion. Startup India Hackathon 2023 is almost upon us and there is a frenzy of activities around the country. It was wonderful to witness the young talent at Adamas University come together for their internal hackathon. Thanks to Dr. Sajal Saha for assembling such an interdisciplinary group of enthusiasts. It was a pleasure to partner up with SAPTARSHI CHATTERJEE and hear out the various solution approaches. Overall, my recommendation to participating teams is as follows: a) Focus on a problem statement where you can go deep. b) Know the performance of your competitive solutions. c) Bring out AI only if you have annotated datasets and the computing infrastructure to create new models. d) Talk with potential customers to get insights about the problem statement. The Baltics Deep Tech sector is one of the fastest growing in Europe and I am proud that Skeleton Technologies is a key player in it. Baltic startups have raised €516M so far in 2023, amidst a significant uptick in activity across the region over the past 5 years. In 2023, over half (54%) of the combined enterprise value of Baltics startups is derived from Deep Tech & AI-powered startups. The Baltic Deep Tech & AI ecosystem builds on a dense network of academic and scientific expertise across the region. For VC investment into Deep Tech, Baltic countries are experiencing faster growth compared to their European and international counterparts. The Baltic Deep Tech startup ecosystem has grown four-fold in the past five years, outpacing most European and global averages. Deep Tech is fundamentally new science and engineering. Deep Tech companies apply a novel scientific or engineering breakthrough for the first time in the form of a product. Deep Tech starts with an extended R&D phase and involves a higher share of technical staff compared to conventional ventures.
