The importance of Wi-fi as the enabler of affordable and inclusive broadband for India was highlighted at the celebration of the World Wi-Fi Day by the Broadband India Forum. World Wi-Fi day is celebrated every year to recognise the importance of Wi-fi and its impact on people’s lives. The technology and its associated use in Public Wi-Fi networks stand as key mechanisms for broadband proliferation in India. The Bharat #6G Vision document of the Government envisages 5 Crore hotspots in the country by the year 2030. Wi-fi coverage in the country can be strengthened by using India’s railway track network to expand the country’s fibre network and by integrating Wi-fi with #5G. These along with the efforts of technologists and researchers to sharpen the technology, can help provide large-scale, affordable connectivity that can benefit sectors like education, finance, agriculture and health. It should become an essential part of digital infrastructure. Several officials from Department of Telecommunications ( DOT ), MeitY, BIF and other telecom professionals were also present, emphasising the collaborative efforts needed to achieve these goals.
I am bit confused how does Indian railways network will help except to carry some load on its trunk route fiber installations. As a nation what we need is almost 35000 inter connected nodes with extra high towers where each one can service rural area of 100 km2. Low density of rural users further adds to commercial considerations
Which country is using this technology? How it has benefited them? Is it useful for common man? Cost?
Very nice. We need to go long way ahead
This is amazing and exciting for connected world
Great to see you
Happy World Wi-Fi Day

2wIndeed! However, the Wi-Fi #policy in #India wasn't a cakewalk but some serendipity helped 🙂 https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/indias-twisted-tryst-wi-fi-deepak-maheshwari/
