With layoffs happening, it's important to build connections outside of work. Here's how: 1. Join fitness classes like Pilates or yoga regularly to meet familiar faces. 2. Explore art or music classes for a new hobby. 3. Participate in local book clubs. 4. Attend diverse meetups/events of personal interest. 5. Engage in advocacy groups supporting causes you care about. 6. Volunteer consistently to forge connections and friendships. Our identity isn't solely tied to work—community exists beyond our jobs.

Spotify announces layoffs: 17% of the staff will lose their jobs before the end of the year. My team immediately asks: - Restructuring of financial difficulty? Reading their FS I really can't tell, but my bet would be - they have difficulty raising cash. Although the last 3 months have been positive, 9 months of 2023 paint a different picture: - Spending +30% more on RND - Dire change in cost of financing (+50%) - Higher tax impact (Differed tax write-off?) = Result is almost 300 M USD more loss than last year. They were running out of time, tried to innovate, but didn't advance fast enough. It's a shame since their sales have been growing and even hike in price didn't impact their market position much. A spotify client myself, I am rooting for them to find a way out.

Spotify, the music industry titan, announced a significant move to reduce its workforce by approximately 1,500 jobs, accounting for 17 percent of its employees. This decision, driven by cost-cutting motives, follows previous layoffs of 600 employees in January and an additional 200 in June. Notably, these recent layoffs coincide with the holiday season, casting a shadow over the festive period. Spotify will pay five months of severance, based on local notice period requirements. All accrued and unused vacation will be paid to the laid-off employees. The company will continue to cover their healthcare during the severance period. Spotify laid off nearly 17% of its staff. Is the exponential growth that’s defined streaming in the past few years coming to an end? Spotify’s growing debt isn’t surprising to anyone who’s been paying attention. They’ve been on a hiring spree for a while and have been investing huge resources back into the company in an attempt to avert a downturn in growth. And now, that’s all abruptly come to an end. Will these layoffs turn around their fortune? Or is there a problem with the streaming industry and how it operates? Spotify came onto the scene, grew at an insane rate, and set the rules for how the industry functions. And now it seems like their set up is failing to achieve the continually high results they’d like. Can layoffs make 2024 a good year for Spotify?
