Understanding Financial Toxicity: Financial toxicity encompasses a range of challenges faced by patients who struggle to afford their medical expenses. It goes beyond the direct costs of treatments and includes the broader financial implications, such as reduced income due to missed work, transportation costs, childcare expenses, and the strain on family budgets. These financial stressors can lead to anxiety, depression, and a decreased quality of life for patients and their families. Impact on Patient Outcomes: 1. Delayed or Inadequate Care 2. Treatment Non-Adherence 3. Increased Stress and Decreased Quality of Life 4. Health Inequalities To mitigate its impact, a comprehensive approach involving policy interventions, patient education, and stakeholder collaboration is needed. By addressing the financial barriers in healthcare, we can promote equitable access to care, improve treatment outcomes, and enhance the overall well-being of patients and their families.
