Some news on the job front! It’s hard to believe it’s been 18 months since I joined Microsoft’s Strategic Missions and Technologies organization. It’s been a wonderful whirlwind of learning, creating, and growing every day. Above all, it’s been a dream come true to have the opportunity to work alongside some of the most talented innovators in the industry. The past 15 years have been defined by the cloud, and much of the next 15 will be defined by further breakthroughs in communications, space and mission engineering technology, and quantum computing. To be at the forefront of innovations that will shape the future is a truly inspiring place to be. As we look toward that future, I am thrilled to announce that I have taken on an expanded role as SMT’s President and COO for Growth Innovation and Strategy including now leading revenue growth across the division. As part of this transition, I am also honored to have Candice Ling and Roger J Heinz join my leadership team. I'm pleased to announce Candice will be leading our U.S. Federal sales and delivery organization and Roger will continue to lead our Communications sales and delivery team. I'm very excited to be working so closely with both Candice and Roger. Together with my incredible team, I look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of possibility as we bring transformative next-gen solutions from incubation to market at scale. I have always believed that Microsoft’s key growth driver is innovation – bar none. But the true power of innovation is only realized when customers turn it into tangible value. When innovation and customer value come together, it’s magic. That's what we do every day. I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity in front of us and our capacity to innovate across all aspects of our business. Reflecting on this shift, here's our perspective on the factors driving Microsoft's success: Microsoft's groundbreaking strides in generative AI undoubtedly played a pivotal role in this accomplishment. Notably, the creation of Generative AI was a collaborative effort with OpenAI, underscoring the vital role of a robust partner ecosystem in shaping next-gen technology. Boasting over 450,000 partners, including resellers, system integrators, ISVs, MSPs, and more, Microsoft's partner ecosystem significantly influences over 90% of its total revenue. Microsoft strategically harnesses its partners' technology, resources, and expertise to consistently drive innovation. Conversely, Apple heavily relies on its reseller channel, leveraging its advantages for market expansion and promoting standout products like the iPhone, a leader in its segment. “Most business leaders (...) are realising that they can’t do it alone in the decade of the ecosystem.” - Jay McBain The problem is that the channel has sat in its own silo for 40 years, with teams in marketing, sales, and finance, for example, working in isolation. Adam Tarbox, the author of the article, highlights the need for vendors to rethink their relationship with partners and the increased demand for automated processes.
