👀 Things I wish I had known before starting my job in the advertising industry as a university graduate: - Push yourself out of your comfort zone! I’m guilty of wanting to stay in my comfy bubble, but if you don’t push yourself out of this then you’ll never learn. Take every opportunity that is given to you, no matter how “good” or “bad” you think you’ll be at it. The only person holding you back is yourself! - Be grateful that you’re surrounded by people who “know more” than you, don’t be intimidated. Learn from these people and their experiences, they had to start somewhere too. - Share your ideas and speak up! This idea could be the idea that is needed so don’t be scared to share, plus it’s good to get feedback so you’ll learn! - Finally, have a bit of faith in yourself. You’re entering a whole new chapter and it’s normal to feel a bit overwhelmed and nervous, you’re only now starting. Enjoy the process! 😎 Millie, Junior Social Media Executive @ The Resistance Agency #socialmediamarketing #socialmediaagency #advertising #graduatejobs #graduate #socialmediaexecutive #newagency #genz #socialmediamanager

Being experimental landed me my first role in marketing communication. . I wanted to be an air hostess because of the fascinating #stories portrayed in the media, sparking my curiosity about how to connect with #brands. I studied Mass Communication, and majored in Public Relations & Advertising at University of Ilorin. This exposed me to the core of #communications . My small 'beaded accessories' business was my first practical attempt at #branding and #marketing I became my own #brandmanager by applying the theories I learnt in class to brand my business. Many thanks to my outstanding lecturer - Kehinde Kadiri, PhD, frpa In the first step, I came up with a brand name, created a logo, and drafted a basic brand/marketing plan. As part of my execution, I opened #socialemedia accounts, coordinated #photoshoots , created social #content and engaged #influencers /brand ambassadors. One of the highlights of this experience was executing an event that would spiral into a positive impact on the brand and me. 'Bid for Style' was an art exhibition aimed at stakeholder engagement, onsite sales, and lead generation. This was my first time handling #eventmanagement for a brand, which included sending out sponsorship proposals, negotiating and securing a venue, coordinating vendors, handling publicity, and handling ticket sales. Over 30 people attended the event, including special press representatives from a Kwara state art and tourism magazine https://lnkd.in/dVH9TT6g After the event, I was interviewed by 'Women Life Magazine', featured in Unilorin's 100 most reputable students list https://lnkd.in/d9wFP-SN received an award nomination from the Entrepreneur Africa Award 2019 https://lnkd.in/di8zHdhq and was recognized as the Student Entrepreneur of the year (Female) by the Association of Mass Communication (AMCOS) Unilorin chapter https://lnkd.in/ddh5b9AU After graduating, I took some courses, attended REDX and other workshops to develop my professional skills. As a result, I was able to land my first internship as a #pr intern at a PR agency, as well as work on the side as a freelance content and social media manager. I advanced to the position of Communications and Relations Manager. All internal communication, external stakeholder interactions, #contentstrategy event coordination, and #marketingcommunications were my responsibilities. Presently, I'm working as a PR account executive, and I must say I love the thrill I get when I say it aloud. lol My journey so far has strategically expanded my prowess in the #PublicRelations & Communication space, enabled me to add value, and I look forward to achieving more! #storytelling #experience

In a crowded D2C market, branding and storytelling play a pivotal role in setting a brand apart from its competitors. Crafting a compelling brand story that resonates with consumers' emotions and values can create a lasting connection and loyalty. By sharing the brand's journey, mission, and values through authentic storytelling, D2C brands can humanize their identity and stand out in the minds of consumers. Moreover, branding goes beyond just a logo or product packaging; it encompasses the entire customer experience. From the moment a consumer interacts with the brand online or offline to the post-purchase support they receive, every touchpoint should reinforce the brand's narrative and values. Consistency in messaging, imagery, and tone of voice across all channels is essential for building a strong and recognizable brand identity. Furthermore, leveraging digital channels such as social media, content marketing, and user-generated content can amplify the brand's story and reach a wider audience. Encouraging customers to share their experiences and become brand advocates can foster a sense of community and authenticity around the brand. By focusing on storytelling and branding, D2C brands can differentiate themselves in the competitive market and build a loyal customer base. TalentServe #internship

Social Media Consultant, Strategist Speaker, and Founder of Saturn 9 Media--I say things louder for the people in back.
Social Media Manager is not an entry-level position. It's not something you can just put an intern in charge of. It doesn't fall under "other duties as assigned." So, why in 2024 are people still listing social media manager as an entry-level position? If you treat social media management as an entry-level role, you can also expect entry-level results. #SocialMediaManager #SocialMediaMarketing

Social Media Manager is not an entry-level position. ❌️ Social Media Manager is not lesser than other positions. ✅️ Everyone starts somewhere. Every single person will be an entry level person when they do a job for the first time. That's not where the problem lies, and such statements only reinforce the notion that there are lesser jobs, and that those deserve lesser treatment and respect. The problem lies in considering any work "low skilled" work. It lies in using this deliberate "misconception" as a free pass at being an elitist, abusive sleaze who wants seasoned professionals for cheap, slapping that tag on your roles to achieve it. Yes, people should stop treating us terribly. Yes, the skills and talents that go into this work should be recognized. Yes, management should stop acting like this is something a 5-year-old with some crayons does for fun on their spare time. But that doesn't equal an entry level job. That equals a kid playing with crayons. It's an attempt to put those who stand at your front lines down, so they feel worthy of taking abuse for your success and peace of mind. It's yet another method of trying to reduce costs by belittling workers you don't want demanding good pay and fair treatment for a very high stress, high exposure, high risk tech job. Let's stop acting like being a rookie who is just starting out is some rite of passage shit, where you should take bad pay, and bad treatment because you're "entry level." Entry level is still a job. You devote time, effort, developed talents to do it. You deserve the appropriate pay and respect. So does someone who has been working for 20 years. Social Media Manager is absolutely an entry level j-o-b. And it's high time we stop treating those as a charitable gift by bosses to workers.
