Aided by a social worker, a neurologist told us on a Friday the 13th in March 1998 that our then 15-month old daughter Megan had a rare form of muscular dystrophy known as Pompe Disease and that she would not live to be 2 years old. This past weekend Megan earned a Master in Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (following her BA in 2019 from Notre Dame). Made possible over the years by scientific advances in biotechnology, the great care of many doctors and nurses, Megan's own determination and resilience, and God's good graces and a very busy Guardian Angel, Megan will now herself become a social worker with children with rare and other life threatening diseases. She will help countless families ahead- just as we were helped many years ago by that social worker. Life comes full circle as Megan pays it forward. "With Love, with Patience and with Faith, she'll make her way." #nurses #doctors #biotechnology #love #socialwork
