Earlier this week, I went to take a first-hand look at the Orb, a device developed by Sam Altman's Tools for Humanity that scans people's irises in exchange for a cryptocurrency reward. The aim is to develop a system for reliably distinguishing between humans and AI, in preparation for a time in which intelligence is no longer a foolproof indicator of humanity. But the project has attracted criticism from the likes of Edward Snowden and Jack Dorsey, and the crypto launch has analysts asking whether the interests of private investors have been prioritised over those of regular people. #worldcoin https://lnkd.in/eM3bkBTn

The #Worldcoin project, with its ambitious goal of distributing cryptocurrency globally, underscores the transformative potential of technology. It hints at a future where concepts like Universal Basic Income (UBI) could be facilitated on a global scale through digital currencies and verification of “personhood”. Yet, it also highlights the complex issues of privacy and data security that we must navigate in our digital age. #DigitalTransformation #TechLeadership #UBI https://lnkd.in/gjy3hNns

I Looked Into Sam Altman’s Orb and All I Got Was This Lousy Crypto| WIRED UK: The Orb, a device mounted on a pole, is being used as part of a world tour for Worldcoin, a cryptocurrency project by Tools for Humanity. Participants have their biometrics scanned by the Orb in exchange for cryptocurrency. The aim is to create a global identification system to differentiate between humans and AI. Critics, including Edward Snowden, have raised concerns about privacy and security. However, the creators assure that raw images are deleted, and only the numeric representation is stored. - Artificial Intelligence topics! #ai #artificialintelligence #intelligenzaartificiale

"Its ambitions are typically lofty for a crypto project. Altman and his fellow founder, Alex Blania, say it could “enable global democratic processes”, and that the prosperity generated by AI could eventually fund a universal basic income. People interested in cryptocurrency are signing up to Worldcoin through the WorldApp. If you had signed up on Friday, you would have received a “genesis grant” of 25 Worldcoin tokens, equivalent to approximately £40. But to get verified after an initial sign-up, users need to have their eyes scanned by visiting a scanning “Orb”. There are 1.5k Orbs in more than 35 cities worldwide, including in a building in Shoreditch, east London, and 2 million people have signed up so far, according to Worldcoin." https://lnkd.in/eMfHjt4e #worldcoin #SamAltman #openai #chatgpt #crypto #biometrics #privacy

A fool and their biometric data are easily parted. This has to be one of the most egregious grifts in the whole 'crypto' space. Really giving Sam Bankman Fried and Alex Mashinsky a run for their proverbial 'token'. "The Worldcoin Foundation is an exempted limited guarantee foundation company, which is a type of non-profit, incorporated in the Cayman Islands. The Foundation’s aim is to realize more inclusive, fair, and just institutions of governance and of the global digital economy. To that end, it serves as the steward of the Worldcoin protocol, supporting and growing the ecosystem until it becomes self-sufficient." Grade A, word salad, crypto-bro grifter language 101. This is why we #Bitcoin only people. Bitcoin NOT crypto.

Prouver que l'on appartient à l'espèce humaine We all know Sam Altman, creator of OpenAI, Silicon Valley darling, and president of Y combinator. He’s back with a new project. It’s called Worldcoin. Worldcoin verifies that a person is real. It scans your eyes using an AI-powered “Orb”, after which you receive an ID and Worldcoin’s cryptocurrency, $WLD. Think of it like a digital passport that pays you to join. Why? To prove who’s human in a world filled with AI. Oh, and this isn’t sci-fi we’re talking about. Worldcoin is already here with over 2 million users, a $3 billion valuation, and plans to expand to 35 cities across 20 countries. It sounds nice, but does anyone else immediately think of 'Black Mirror'? 🤨 Granted Worldcoin’s mission is noble (increasing economic opportunity), but the whole eye-scanning operation is definitely raising some red flags. Now on the Flipside, Worldcoin might just be exactly what we need to put an end to ever growing swarm of online bots and deepfakes by distinguishing between humans and computers. The future is not just coming…it’s here… You can read the full report and find further insights here → ( further)
