In order to make the Advanced Air Mobility progress so many issues have to be addressed. Will Vertiports be Public or Private? Who certifies them? Federal, State, or Local agencies. How about power? The vehicles are going to need a lot. What about Fire Suppression? The current batteries required to power the vehicles, if on fire will be difficult to contain. These are just a few. The Georgia Department of Transportation #advancedairmobility Working Group is tackling these issues and many more. It was great being able to speak with industry professionals like Gary O'Neill from the Georgia Center of Innovation. Everyone brings a wealth of knowledge and viewpoints. What do you think the number one issue is?

Steadily new electric aircraft models are developed worldwide, and several are planned to be certified within 2027. The most energy efficient type is battery electric passenger aircraft, developed by for example Eviation. Will people actually fly them, once they are launched? Very interesting overview of recent electric aircraft projects, including some outside of Europe. 🛩 Just like in the automotive industry, we are seeing the emergence of new players, such as Swedish company Heart Aerospace, which is developing an electric regional airliner. The company has already received an order for 250 units of the new airliner, which can travel 200km on fully electric power, and 400km on hybrid power – all while carrying 30 passengers. Even more impressive is that, with just 25 passengers, the aircraft has a potential range of 800km! It’s very exciting to see how fast the industry is growing. As much as I respect the work of some of the companies here, I think this aviation charging war is premature and counterproductive. CCS1 is a dying standard in North America and even for CCS2 "European standard" is not a synonym for "global standard" as much as it is sometimes treated as such. Asia, for instance, exists and has more DC fast chargers than North America and Europe combined. It is not at all a future-proof standard across aviation. Joby looks like it has a good technical solution, but with serious potential supply chain/cost issues relative to leveraging ground vehicle plugs. Surprised more folks aren't talking about MCS in aircraft which would be a much better fit for the broader range of applications and could leverage heavy vehicle charger supply chains. https://lnkd.in/gAU8TwZX https://lnkd.in/gpqVGtT3 (edited)
