ACCESS hosted a conversation with Illinois State Representative Theresa Mah, Ph.D., Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Director Sameer Vohra, MD, JD, MA and Illinois Primary Health Care Association to discuss current and future initiatives that seek to advance health equity within our communities and across the state of Illinois. We discussed the need to expand community-based research and evaluation so that we have data that tells us where we are and where we are going, the importance of integrating physical and behavioral health care to address social determinants of health, as well as growing the talent pipeline to address capacity and increase access to care. Collaboration is key and sharing the challenges and best practices of this work with engaged partners is critical to refining and innovating a patient-centered health care delivery model that innovates and evolves to understand and meet our communities’ needs.
