Showing due diligence for working conditions at shipbuilding yards is increasingly important going forward but also for yards conducting repairs and recycling. Soon we will have similar requirements for due diligence in the EU as for Norway. Such regulations will likely spread further.
Recent media reports have focused on allegedly poor working conditions at Turkish shipyards. In our article, the law firm Wikborg Rein reminds Norwegian shipowners who are contracting with foreign yards to be prepared to disclose what they are doing to ensure decent working conditions. Disclosing such information is required under the Norwegian Transparency Act. #turkey #shipyards #norway #transparencyact #marineinsurance #gard https://lnkd.in/ebKgpts9

How can these Chinese treat Papua New Guineans (locals) like this in our own land? Can something be done to such issue faced by our helpless locals? Where are the authorities who are in charge of protecting the rights of the locals esp. labors?
This is how some of our helpless citizens are being treated by foreign contractors. In this video, the person complaining is a local who was employed by a Chinese contractor and he is complaining about his unpaid hours but he was chased out in a very unprofessional and inappropriate manner. Do we have some concerned authorities who can look into these kind of situations to ensure that our locals who are engaged with foreign contractors can be treated with respect and address their queries professionally?

I’m a mother, wife, sister & daughter. I live and breathe my Western Sydney Community. It’s a privilege & honour to serve as their Member of Parliament. Local representation matters.
I spoke about the unnecessary pressures unfair contracts are placing onto the industry and the effects these are having on small and medium sized businesses. It is crucial to ensure that favourable and fair terms granted to head contractors also trickle down to subcontractors. I call on Government across all levels to look at their procurement processes to ensure that the bigger contractors do not remove or include clauses that negatively impact their subcontractors. #constructionindustry #faircontracts #unfaircontractterms

🇰🇷💬 A "perfect" highway 🛣️❓ 🚧 South Korean contractors Posco E&C and Lotte E&C have refused to pay compensation for damages in the billion-dollar Da Nang – Quang Ngai Expressway, saying their work was faultless. 📍 The second phase of the expressway, a 72-kilometer section between Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces in the central region, is now the subject of a lawsuit by the government that claims the builder, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), failed to meet quality standards, causing it a loss of VND460 billion ($18.78 million). ⚠️ The first phase too had quality issues, with inspectors finding potholes and uneven surfaces, and in 2021 a Hanoi court hauled up 36 individuals for "violations related to the construction which caused severe consequences." 🚨 It sent two former bosses of VEC to six and seven years in prison. ⚖️ Speaking about the current lawsuit, the VEC has said that if there are quality issues with the construction, the four foreign contractors, the other two being Chinese, would need to pay compensation for them. 🗣️ Lotte said it built the sections precisely to contract requirements and conducted regular quality checks. 🗺️ The Da Nang-Quang Ngai Expressway is a key infrastructure work whose construction began in 2013 and was completed in 2018 at a cost of VND34.5 trillion ($1.4 billion). 💡 VEC belongs to the Ministry of Transport. Thus far 22 people, including 11 VEC executives, have been arrested pending investigation on violations in the the second phase of construction. https://lnkd.in/dtNU73Uw

🔔 Breaking News for Seafarers! I'm thrilled to share an empowering update with all of you regarding my recent post involved specific Crewing Officer. It's a testament to the incredible power of speaking up and advocating for our rights in the maritime industry. Following my post and exposure of unfair compensation practices, I've received communication from some professionals at the company's head office. Together, we engaged in constructive dialogue, and I'm pleased to report that we swiftly reached a resolution. Not only did they acknowledge the discrepancy in my compensation, but they also rectified it by paying me back what I was originally worth. This outcome reaffirms that the power of speech is unstoppable when we refuse to settle for less and refuse to remain silent. This victory isn't just about me; it's a win for every seafarer who has ever felt undervalued or overlooked. It's proof that by raising our voices and standing up for what's right, we can effect positive change and ensure fair treatment for all. Never underestimate the impact of speaking out. #SpeakUp #FairCompensation #Advocacy #NeverSettle #Seafarersrights #Maritimeindustry #Fairwages #offshoreoilandgas #KnowYourWorth #SpeakUp #CrewingIssues #SeafarerRights #IndustryUpdate #MaritimeCommunity
