How to Become a Licensed Aircraft Engineer (LAE) in Malaysia Part 2 Aside from enrolling in a full-time, four-year program at a Maintenance Training Organization (MTO), there is an alternative way to obtain the CAAM Category B Aircraft Maintenance License (AML). *(Refer to Civil Aviation Directives (CAD) 1801 Part 1.7 for details) 1. This pathway is available for applicants who have several years of direct involvement in the maintenance of aircraft, whether as a mechanic or technician, on civil or military aircraft. These individuals can sit for the Cat B Module examinations relevant to their application category in an approved MTO. 2. To qualify, candidates must pass the examinations, practical assessments, and provide evidence of proficiency in the English language. 3. The examinations for each module comprise multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and essays for some modules. Proposed new UKCAA and EASA B1 License Category I understand there is a new category for B1,s and for B2,s. Apparently to be called UKCAA B1.1.1.1GM (Grand Master) The eligibility is based on the following criteria: Can kick the main wheel and tell the tyre pressure within + or – 2 psi depending on the rebound of the boot. Can test acidity of Skydrol by rubbing a small amount into the eye. Being capable of listening to an Engine Ground run (from the crew room) and determining the vibration figure and which blade to balance. Others to be added in due course An oral will be conducted by the surveyor, who will give the names random Airlines and MRO’s, with the expected response of… “yea I know someone who works there (name)…. he’s and idiot.” A final oral test will be to talk for 5 minutes non-stop and moan about everything without any repetition about his/ her/they life as an aircraft Engineer. There will be a B2 Grand Master which consists of; A test of the ability to open a panel on their own. Push any piece of GSE unaided and assists in aircraft movements The authorities are not expected to issue many of this particular type License.
