🚀 Building: community, data products and tools for Startup People & Culture Leaders | Co-founder @ OpenOrg.fyi
Interesting thing I've learned about building a benchmarking tool is that what a lot of early adopters actually want is an influencing tool. Completely reframes product features. Example: Old feature: Auto generated board reports 1. Choose metrics 2. Generate Graphs 3. Download as pdf/ppt New feature: Show me the stories I could tell with my data. 1. Here are the stories you can tell 2. Choose story 3. Generate metric benchmark graphs that help tell that story 4. Suggest narrative 4. Download Excited to see where peoplemetrics.fyi goes :-)
This will be extremely helpful for a lot People teams. Understanding the data and transforming that into a compelling narrative is a difficult skill to master. Support and suggestions on what stories you could tell not only makes this step easier, it makes it less intimidating and will also save time. Having a sparring partner like this in a tool may also trigger you to think of other ways you could tell stories and apply it to your organisation. Curious to see where you head next!
This is 🔥🔥🔥

2moJohn. I rarely comment on your posts, but felt the need to do so here! It is ALWAYS about stories. Facts and data are all well and good (lies, damned lies and statistics!) but it is the things that people can relate to that are the most powerful. And those things are the stories. As a colleague of mine once said "Data is great, but so what? I want to see the insight it led to, the knowledge you gained, the change that it allowed. Tell me what this means. Give me the story".
