People need jobs and companies need people. Some of the BEST employees I’ve hired to work on my team throughout the years had no DIRECT experience. It doesn't mean they can't do the job. It just means they need a bit of coaching for them to fly. Give people a chance (Need to find your chance? https://lnkd.in/eFdpiMdE).

I'm coming up on 15 months without a job, (since my son was born), as a single mom. To say I'm struggling, and worried, is an understatement. I've landed many interviews, and made it through to even the 4th round for a few (although I honestly feel that many interviews is ridiculous), but ultimately have not been chosen. I need a fully remote WFH position in order to care for my child. I have a lot of diverse experiences. I have a stack of glowing references. I'm passionate, professional, and dedicated. I just need the right opportunity and a chance!

In an ideal world… it’s tough to get quality roles without much experience. Recruiters and employers need to understand there are many individuals who lack experience for a good reason… In my case, I moved here over 4 years ago, ever since I’ve learned to speak the language, assimilated to the culture, attended college (about to graduate), and have been able to acquire skills from working retail/customer service jobs, and even completing an internship at C.H. Robinson. But I’m much more than that, I’ve got skills, I’ve got passion, and I would have much more experience had I had the opportunity of being born and raised in the U.S. I hope to find a role where I can bring my skills and dedication. On the other hand, great post Jerry Lee 💡 thank you for shedding some light on this topic!

I like the sentiment of this post, but after 7 months of being without a job I don't have any faith in it! I have been turned down for jobs I am qualified for, over qualified for, even jobs that are posted "No experience needed" and it boggles my mind tbh. With the nature of today's job search experience being so detached from actual human interaction, getting a little insight as to why someone is being passed over is also non-existent. In a perfect world, this comic would be great and the norm. Also in a perfect world, knowing why you failed to get a job, would be beneficial to the searcher so they'd know where to improve and hopefully be successful on their next application.

I wish that this was reality. I am currently watching my adult child try to find a receptionist position and she is passed over time and time again due to no experience. She has a bachelor’s degree and extensive customer service skills and can’t get hired as a receptionist. It’s a catch 22 - can’t get a position without experience and can’t get a position to get experience.

Absolutely! 🚀 Potential and adaptability often trump direct experience. Many talented individuals can excel in various roles with a little guidance and support. Investing in their growth could lead to loyal and high-performing team members, making it a win-win situation for everyone involved. 💪🌟 After all, experience is gained over time, but innate drive and willingness to learn are invaluable qualities that can't be taught. So, let's give those hidden gems a chance to shine! 💎✨

Entry level jobs and internships are now demanding experience. I’ve been in retail for a long time. I’ve graduated with an associates and I am almost done with my Bachelors degree in Human Resource and it’s really tough to land interviews even for internships due to lack of experience in the field.

My motto has always been that I can teach someone our processes and how to navigate our systems. What I cannot teach you is how to be a kind caring person with a positive attitude. If you've interviewed and hired for a longtime like I have, you can see who is genuinely a nice person and who isn't. I'll take that genuinely kind person with limited experience any day!

I am proof of this! I applied to 47 Online jobs, a fist-full of reach outs, and only ONE that actually gave me the chance and it's with WEX Benefits. Been with them for approximately 3 months now and I love the company that took a chance on me! Couldn't be happier to have landed this job! Good things come to those who wait (but still put one foot in front of the other to help it happen)! Never give up!

I love this! Unfortunately I think a lot of great talent is being shut out by an "experience barrier" or an "education barrier." You have to have four years of experience minimum plus a bachelor's degree in order to even get an interview for a large majority of technical writer jobs. Yet even the best technical writers who have eight years or more on the job spend a lot of time doing exactly what a new technical writer or a writer with only a year's worth of experience does: researching. Because when it comes to technology, things are constantly changing and developing, and you're never quite caught up on it all.
