In celebration of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we invited our AAPI associates to answer the question: What brings you joy about your heritage and culture?
Janet Makonda, Executive Assistant, Indonesian background: “Being Indonesian is rather unique. We're a small percentage of all AAPI in the US and being able to share a bit more of our culture is pretty awesome. Indonesians are made up of more than 300 ethnic groups and cultures, with dozens of languages and dialects, over the span of over 17,000 islands. A couple of well-known islands in Indonesia are Bali and Java. I can speak Bahasa Indonesia, read a little bit, and understand conversations.”
