𝐀 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧  In April 2023, the Norwegian NORSAT-TD spacecraft launched, with on board the CubeCAT. The CubeCAT is a 10 x 10 x 10 cm box, an advanced laser terminal for small satellites. A link has been set up successfully between the CubeCAT on the satellite and the TNO optical ground station in the Netherlands. This demonstrates that TNO's laser satellite communications technology works under space flight conditions. The operation of laser satellite communication involves directing laser beams across enormous distances. The use of complex optomechatronic technology is essential to establish and uphold the link. Together with Demcon, we partner based on TNO’s technology in the joint venture FSO Instruments. FSO Instruments is industrializing this technology, enabling optical satellite communications at the high speed of 1 Gbps with terminals suitable for small satellites. Our aim is to ensure that a lightweight, high-performing laser satellite communication terminal can be produced reliably and efficiently in series FSO Instruments works closely with AAC Clyde Space to bring CubeCAT to market. #space #hightech #satellite
