It is absolutely no surprise that something so heart warming was done in honor of the greatest teacher I ever had.

Mr. Ziegenfus and Mr. McNallie, Math and English respectively, were my first professors at JMU. Both of them changed my perspective on life forever. Even though I was a music major, math was my favorite subject because of Mr. Ziegenfus. My second career as a high school math teacher is due to both of them. After all these years, I still hear Mr. Zig’s voice in my head when I’m teaching. The way I care for all of my students, especially those who truly struggle with math (& in life!), is because of him. I learned so much more than Math and English from both of them. Part of my teaching style is a blend of both of them. RIP Mr. Zig and I love you!😔

Zig was by far the most passionate teacher I have ever had in any subject. Glad they could honor him in such a nice way.

One of the best professors I’ve ever had. Beautiful mural and well-deserved. #GoDukes

I remember Math 236 very fondly. Professor Z was a great educator, funny, and cared about his students. I don't remember many of my professor names from the early 80's, but I remember Professor Z vividly. I got my first A in college math and never looked back. RIP my dear professor.

He was kind man and mentor. Guided me through summer freshman orientation and the great class schedule 80 column card shuffle.

Ornithology with Zig was my favorite biology class. I still use the field guide that acted as our "textbook" to ID the birds in my yard and on day trips. A beautiful dedication to a knowledgeable and passionate man.

I had Dr. Ziegenfus for Calc III hack in 1982. So sorry to hear he has passed.
