Here is a framework to improve #AmazonSEO using #amazonppc (scroll to the end for secret sauce) . . First, lets understand what influences our search rank: (a) Click share of your product vs. others: # clicks on a specific KW (b) Conversion share of your product vs. others: # purchases on that KW (Ofcourse D.U.H, that is why brand analytics only shows you these 2 metrics against each KW) PPC will help you with (a), i.e. Click share of your product vs. others How? By bidding high on a keyword, you will get more impressions on that keyword and subsequently increased clicks. So far, this is tribal knowledge - everyone knows this. So what's the secret: 🤫 Only Exact match type will help you improve SEO for that keyword. Context: There are 3 types of KW targeting on amazon ads: EXACT, PHRASE, BROAD. When you target BROAD - your PPC spend gets divided into multiple search terms applicable to that term When you target Phrase - same thing. You will probably get lower search terms, but your budget will still get divided into multiple search terms. When you target EXACT - 💥 - all spends go to 1 KW. More impressions, more clicks, better influence. Suggestion: There has to be a campaign on MUST-WIN-KW, with exact match on it. So you can eventually influence organic ranks. At Atom11, we are working on automations which will help you track and win must-win search terms. Have ideas about ecommerce automation - please reach out - I love discussions. Unlike sponsored rankings, these are not paid placements and are determined by Amazon's A9 algorithm. Understanding Customer Search Behaviour : Keyword research is fundamentally about understanding how your potential customers think and search for products. Enhancing Product Discoverability: Amazon operates on a complex algorithm known as A9, which determines the ranking of products on search results pages. By integrating high-traffic and relevant keywords into your product titles, descriptions, and backend search terms, you significantly boost your product’s discoverability. 3. Optimizing Amazon PPC Campaigns: For those investing in Amazon Pay-Per-Click campaigns, keyword research is not just important; it’s indispensable. PPC campaigns revolve around keywords — you bid on keywords, and your ads appear when those keywords are searched. 4. Staying Ahead of the Competition: In a marketplace as dynamic as Amazon, staying ahead of the competition is crucial. Regularly conducting keyword research helps you keep up with changing market trends, consumer preferences, and competitor strategies. 5. Data-Driven Decision Making: Keyword research provides valuable insights into market demand, competition levels, and customer preferences. Here’s another good example why your #SEO agencies and copywriters can’t use #amazon search behavior as a proxy for search on Walmart. Why? Because #Walmart shoppers shop the category differently! In this “dog treat” category example you can see that the same terms rank differently in consumer importance. (Source: Profitero's Search Optimizer models). Here’s what’s at stake when you don’t prioritize your keywords correctly: ⬆️ Getting from Page 2 to Page 1 organically = 37% avg. lift in sales. ⬆️ Getting from Page 2 to top 10 = 70% avg. lift in sales. Don’t a cast wide net for your #retailer search strategy. Use a spear.
