𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲? Last week I had the pleasure of joining the stage at another great Pyladies Munich 🐍 event. After I spoke about my favorite topic (#accountability and #lifelonglearning ✨, which I’ll spare you from in this post) a junior data scientist approached me and asked me how to deal with something they’ve been experiencing lately: #imposter syndrome at the #workplace. Now, imposter syndrome is nothing unusual. 62% of people experience it at the workplace, also it’s a frequent topic amongst the Codum community - being a newbie to a complex topic can be intimidating, and feelings of self-doubt, being a fraud or not fitting in can easily creep in - and yes, I have experienced it too! 👋 From my experience, talking to others (your accountability partner, a friend, your manager, or someone else you trust) is usually the most important thing to reduce feelings of self-doubt. While we discussed this and some more approaches (find my second favorite one in the comments), a larger question formed in my head: Are team leads aware of this happening to their team members? What can prevent imposter syndrome in the workplace? And what is being done already? What have you experienced? What are your thoughts? Share below👇

Whenever the negative voice in your head comes back, follow Carl Richards approach: Take a deep breath and say to yourself: “Welcome back, old friend. I'm glad you're here. Now, let's get to work."

In my mind, that feeling of discomfort when you're doing something for the first time is your body's way of telling you "Hey, this feels different and new to me... ⚠️ proceed with caution!" It doesn't mean that you don't have enough knowledge or adequate skills to get the job done. We just need time (and practice) to feel comfortable, but often we're expected to be "born ready", especially on the workplace
