Thank you I-O Psych Memes for posting this reminder. Measuring activity is not the same as measuring results. The key to success is identifying the desired results, metrics to be used in evaluation and a monitoring plan. It's critical to do this upfront - before and design or development is done. It's all too tempting to simply dive in first.

I cannot stress this enough! My research has shown that 80% of bad bosses just need guidance. The other 20% are narcissistic a*holes and are destroying your company. Training is great, but when you have snakes in the grass, training will not do a thing. Employee morale begins with the onboarding process. Choosing the correct person to train is critical to the new employee's successful integration of the job. Understanding how people learn is also critical to their success. Do they have all the necessary tools to perform their duties? Have they received the necessary training in order to use the tools at their disposal?

Onboarding new joiners without an adequate handover or training plan can cause unnecessary stress for the new employee as well as creating stress/frustration for the rest of the team. This is often due to the employee not being entirely clear of what their role and responsibilities are, as well as not fully understanding what is expected of them from their manager/organisation (role ambiguity). More importantly, having no training or onboarding plan in place can also tarnish the employee's perception of the company/role, which can then lead to issues with high turnover within the role/team

While employee experience is valid and important, realizing gaps that exist in the training program and how it may not be effectively training employees for the specific skills necessary to do the job responsibilities is even more important. If two or more people are struggling with the same thing, it may be worth revising what is to craft what can be better. We must change and adapt as our companies are forced to change and adapt. Sometimes what was once accurate training is now not so accurate, so finding what is missing is key to solving the problem.

In applying the ADDIE model, at the start of project “Anaylsis” phase, I bring in how we will define project success with definitive ways of measurement that will be used in “Evaluation.” Following this waterfall methodology (where at each phase of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation (for the meme, that Delivery), and Evaluation the client signs off on each step so the right project with the right outcomes is delivered correctly the first time. And to the posts point, most companies won’t spend the extra money for a month or two of assessment so I build evaluation metrics into the implementation/ delivery stage.
