"𝐈𝐟 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐢𝐧'𝐭 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞, 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐱 𝐢𝐭." Let me be first to say: nah - this isn't always true. We host a successful quarterly lunch and learn event where our donors visit our campus and directly interact with our scientists, gaining insight into their work and understanding how their donations make it all possible. I love these events because they allow our donors to ask specific research-related questions, long-term goals, scalability potential, and associated costs. (Let me tell you - as a development officer, my ears perk up when a donor asks, "So, how much to fund this project fully?") Over the past year, we've closely examined this successful event, recognizing that there's always room for improvement. A key goal of mine is to demystify the work done at Pennington Biomedical and translate the science in a way that even someone who barely passed high school chemistry (hi - I'm talking about me!) can understand while also giving the community at large greater access to our campus. This all boils down to ensuring this successful event is 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆 for all our guests. To achieve these goals, we made a few changes. First, we moved the event to a more accessible location, placing our guests right in the heart of our Center. Not only is the new location 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 easier to access, but it also allows our guests to be inside the Center in a location they may otherwise not have access to. Next, we updated (and also simplified!) the menu to cater to diverse dietary needs while aligning with our mission as a health-focused research center and ensuring everyone gets a satisfying meal. We also reevaluated the guest list, extending invitations to more people, and finally, we offer a tour after the event, allowing our guests to witness our Center in action. Our ultimate objective is to create an even more inclusive and welcoming experience for our longstanding donors, newcomers, and yet-to-be donors. We had a successful event, but we still updated it. Why? Because it is important to continuously evaluate and improve our events, even if they have been successful in the past. This ensures that they stay fresh, engaging, and relevant to our donors' changing needs and preferences. #nonprofits #engagement #stewardship #itaddsup #cultivation #development

Last Friday, WeSub was honored to attend the Charity Gala for the book "50 Business Personalities". 📖 In which Our CEO, Mariusz Szałagan, was featured, recounting his entrepreneurial journey. During the summer our fellows join. We're very fortunate that our clients Andrew Kaufteil J.D. & Jim Deasy from Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health shared how they are being entrepreneurial leaders at the Foundation! A few takeaways: 🤩 Foundations can help doctors, nurses and hospital meet the fundraising needs so the system can focus on families and patients 🤩 Getting the best people to work on the hardest diseases requires philanthropic investment; philanthropy can start or accelerate research 🤩 Nonprofits lead mission-focused work, and can lack resources, management expertise, and consistent execution to achieve the mission 🤩 Foundations show donors that even though medicine is different and often difficult to move through, you can have an outsized impact 🤩 There is an opportunity to really innovate in philanthropy 🤩Philanthropy can go a long way in helping researchers do the next level research, open up a new clinic, or help serve more patients when traditional funding sources are not available Thank you, Andrew and Jim

Our co-founders Akiko Iwasaki, PhD, and Anna Marie Pyle, PhD, received an award and support from the Blavatnik Family Foundation’s Innovation Fund at Yale for their innovation on a pan-viral antibody strategy. Dr. Iwasaki is a three-time winner of Blavatnik fund grants which have helped support and lay the foundation for some of the immunology research at #RIGImmune.
