🌟 Throwback to the In(fra)spiring Hydrogen & Mobility Conference in Paris, organized by Infravenir last week. Thank you so much for the invitation Sandra Hahn Duraffourg and Léa Salvy. It was an honor to speak alongside colleagues and experts who are also role models for me: Alena Fargere, PhD, Dominique LECOCQ 💧and Daphné Van Overbeke. The main topic was : "Hydrogen to Decarbonize Transport and Mobility", and the key takeaways from our exchange included : 1️⃣ Policy Support: Clear and supportive government policies and incentives are essential to create a favorable environment for both hydrogen infrastructure and vehicles' investment and adoption. 2️⃣ Supply Chain Integration: Integration of hydrogen production, distribution, and utilization into existing energy supply chains requires strategic planning and coordination among stakeholders. 3️⃣ Collaboration: Collaboration across sectors—government and local authorities, industry, and academia—is key to advancing hydrogen technology and infrastructure. 🤝 4️⃣ Consumer Awareness: Educating consumers, businesses, authorities and citizens about the benefits and potential of hydrogen as a clean energy source is crucial for increasing acceptance and demand. The second day of the Gigafactory Design & Construction event in Berlin began with an engaging presentation by Richard Zhang, Managing Director of EVE Germany. His talk, titled "Sustainable and Energy Efficient Battery Gigafactories," outlined pivotal strategies for building more environmentally friendly manufacturing facilities. Zhang discussed key strategies for achieving Net Zero goals, emphasizing the importance of integrating sustainability into the core operations of gigafactories. He highlighted the need for early planning to incorporate renewable energy sources, which are essential for reducing reliance on non-renewable power. He also covered implementing strategies to minimize carbon footprints, such as adopting sustainable manufacturing practices that reduce environmental impact while maintaining production efficiency. Zhang shared insights into how these practices can be effectively integrated into existing operations. A significant focus of his presentation was on designing effective energy management systems. These systems are crucial for enhancing performance and ensuring that energy usage within gigafactories is as efficient and minimal as possible. The H2eart for Europe storage alliance was officially founded in Brussels today. With 11 strong SSOs on board and support of a number of European associations it will hopefully make an impact in the future. My key take aways are: 🔗 An integrated view is important and the whole #hydrogen value chain from production to consumption, imports to transmission and underground storage has to be included. 🧾 SSOs need a regulatory framework that gives incentives to develop new hydrogen and to repurpose conventional natural gas storages. 🌿 Policy makers should accelerate permitting procedures and integrate the #UndergroundHydrogenStorage technology into their decarbonization plans. 📭 SSOs expect a clear mandate where they need to go in the future! 🧷 Ensure #Securityofsupply is of utmost importance - today and tomorrow. 🤝 In his inspiring speech EVP Maroš Šefčovič underlined: Collaboration around #UndergroundHydrogenStorage is key in decarbonizing and securing the European future. 👷🏼♀️A lot of work and preparation has been done so far. First demonstration projects have been delivered by SSOs - at Uniper are two projects underway, where findings with regard to technology, equipment, operating methods etc. are expected in the near future. 👉 #HyStorage #HPCKrummhörn 💙 My outlook: H2eart for Europe has big work packages ahead. I’m excited and looking forward to collaborate within the alliance to make further impact and support the #EnergyTransition.
