When the going gets tough, who gets going for you? Empathy and care are core values that have been woven into Infosys ’ DNA from the very beginning and guide us as we amplify human potential and create the next opportunity for people, businesses and communities. Whether it’s for the community at large, or Infoscions themselves, we have always aimed to show up for people in a kind, impactful way. For example, take the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost overnight, our role expanded beyond our usual operations. We became a logistics operator, coordinating delivery of work infrastructure to employees who had relocated to their hometowns. We were emergency evacuators, bringing back employees and their families from onsite locations through dedicated Chartered flights when all other transport options had closed. Once vaccines became available, we ran free vaccination campaigns for all employees and their families, not just in India but also in the Philippines. These were large-scale operations being driven with empathy by teams that were working 24/7 to deliver. All along I was behind the scenes, helping wherever possible. But it wasn’t until a few years ago when a personal crisis struck that I fully comprehended the depth of Infosys’ care. In January 2022, when I was holidaying with my wife near Jaisalmer, India, our vehicle was involved in a serious accident. My wife suffered multiple broken ribs, a head injury and other internal injuries, while I had a broken collar bone and few broken ribs. Medical facilities are relatively scarce in frontier desert regions like Jaisalmer, so I was initially concerned. But I needn’t have worried. Infosys immediately got into action activating its entire support machinery behind my wife and me. The Jaipur facility head ,shifted us to a bigger hospital in Jodhpur. Infosys even offered to have us airlifted by air ambulance to Bangalore but due to the nature of injuries and risks involved this was not possible . Over the next three weeks, every medical and physical requirement was met. Many Infosys colleagues, including the Group CEO, CFO were in constant touch to give me courage and confidence. Despite this accident and hospitalization taking place so far away from home, never did I feel alone, due to the overwhelming support of my colleagues. While I am eternally grateful to my Infosys colleagues , I initially wondered if this support was offered to me because of my position as a senior leader. Since then, I have personally met with countless colleagues at various levels who have shared similar stories of Infosys helping them when they required it the most. This reaffirms my belief that the support I received is a testament to Infosys’ inherent culture --a culture of extending a helping hand to every Infoscion in times of need.
