Another exciting day for us at COP28 UAE, come see for yourself ⬇️ 👪Our booth was flooded with visitors from all backgrounds, even schoolchildren asking about the link between food production & consumption and the climate crises - it's great to see how aware future generations are of scrutinising our current #foodsystem. 🥗The role of food in battling the climate crises has only been a topic at COP-Conferences for 3 years, while, rightfully so, #nutrition was added only this year! Experts at COP28 agree on the main success factors to drive real, lasting change: Regulation, Innovation, Partizipation and Capitalisation - all four “horses” have to run into the same direction - otherwise we’ll fail. 🌱At Infinite Roots, we're working on food solutions that promote #planetaryhealth, and it's great to see that experts at COP are not just focusing on reducing carbon emissions; promoting planetary health also means focusing on solutions that use significantly less water and land than today's alternatives. What’s been your key takeaway from COP28?

🥑🌍👉 Finally! Food systems are on the menu at #COP28 👈🌍 🥑 COP28 UAE will dedicate a full day to discuss food systems, as world leaders meet to find ways to limit global warming and prepare for climate change. It’s the first time this topic makes it onto the COP agenda. Considering 40% of all the food produced around the world is wasted (WWF), COP may be a bit late to the food waste fighting party, but we’re still pleased they’ve arrived. Why? Because fighting food waste is the number one solution to help tackle climate change, limiting the temperature rise to 2˚C by 2100 (h/t Project Drawdown). This year, COP28 will call on Global Leaders to sign the Emirates Declaration, which outlines how sustainable food systems (and reducing food waste) are vital to mitigate the effects of climate change. At Too Good To Go, we urge leaders to go even further and apply concrete food waste reduction targets to the final declaration. The food waste crisis is too urgent, too vast and too serious not to act effectively against it with speed and determination. If we move quickly and with purpose, real positive change can be achieved. 💪 🙏 #NetZero #ClimateAction #FoodSystems

What to expect from CoP28? As we are close to #CoP28 in Dubai which is the largest Summit where Leaders come together to discuss issues related to Climate Change. I expect a lot of things but some of my thoughts and wishes could be summarized around the points discussed. - Now more than ever the continent Africa is suffering due to the climate impacts where drought, flooding, pest (locust,..) infestation, warming and others became the new normal. - The Africa food system especially small holder producers and consumers are unable to produce and consume at least at minimum standard level. - The market actors and the food system leaders are not coming together to tackle this global but locally pertinent development challenges. - As an Agriculture professional and the sector leader I felt very sorry when so many of our communities especially women, children, elderly, people with challenges are displaced due to the flooding in the east and horn of Africa. Even globally we are witnessing similar scenario. - The planet, our economy, the people and the nature all are suffering due to man-made disaster the carbon emission and the weather patterns. - Building climate resilient and green economy needs much attention. Financing the climate adaptation programs which are nationally developed should not be for later but now. - This a Call for Wake up and ACT. Our ship is sinking in to the sea and we need champions and leaders who save us from the drowning. I believe in God intervention to this global crisis. - My colleagues, NGOs, private and public representatives will be travelling to Dubai to voice their national interest and plans. - Innovation, Policy, Clean energy, Sustainability, Financing and Collaboration need in-depth discussion. I look forward for fruitful and successful summit that translate commitments in to action. #CoP28, #climatechange, #climateresilence, #climateaction, #climateadaptation #energy

Finally, a step forward. Hooray. However, one I fear is still too little. And not to mention fueled by 'hypocrisy' of the top. Let me explain... 👇 COP28 UAE... Meaning 'leaders' from all over the world will fly (with massive footprint) to UAE just to discuss, and call to maybe sign the Emirates Declaration. More talking and less doing, it seems. 🤷♀️ Besides, even if people sign the declaration, how do we may sure the promise made by signing is kept? We all know there's no or barely any follow up on these things. And all this under the guise of "preparing" for climate change - though this is already happening and preparing seems it is much too late. When will people start walking the walk? Do these meetings online instead of hundreds flying across the globe. Maybe I'm a negative nancy on this Monday morning, but believe me, I really want to celebrate this little win, but I also see too many questionable things happening here, if you really take climate change and sustainability serious. #sustainability #cop28uae #climateactionnow

Today from the Ministry of Education – UAE at COP28 UAE led by the fantastic Dina Storey We discussed the significance of small actions to reduce our carbon footprint and how daily choices impact the global ecosystem. She stressed the need for empathy which i found very effective both towards others and nations abroad, highlighting the ripple effect our decisions have worldwide. As when we start feeling for others we start to take effective actions towards a better sustainable future 🌱 Observing the impact of climate change firsthand this November 2023– temperatures noticeably hotter than the previous year. A stark reminder that our planet is undergoing profound shifts, urging us to escalate efforts towards sustainable living. 🌎🔥 Inspired by Dina Storey ‘s insights at COP28 UAE so let's kickstart change with small, sustainable actions in our daily lives because every person's efforts count in making a difference and creating a better sustainable tomorrow/future to combat climate change. Let's instill empathy and a sense of biodiversity in education, fostering innovation and a sustainable future. #cop28uae #sustainability #empathyinaction #smallactionsbigimpact #reducewaste #reducereuserecycle #reduceemissions #reducefoodwaste #reduceplasticwaste #reducecosts #reducecarbonfootprint #climatechangemitigation
