What do you think about this? The use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in Lok Sabha elections in India has been a subject of debate. Supporters argue that EVMs are efficient, reduce fraud, and provide quick results. Critics express concerns about security, tampering, and the need for a paper trail. Ultimately, whether EVMs are good or bad depends on the effectiveness of safeguards, transparency, and public trust in the electoral process. It's an ongoing discussion in Indian politics.

To address the challenges of fraudulent voting and vulnerabilities inherent in the paper ballot system, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) emerged as a solution. The concept was first conceived in 1977 within the Election Commission, which tasked the Electronics Corporation of India Ltd. (ECIL), Hyderabad, with designing and developing the EVMs. By 1979, a prototype was ready, and it underwent a demonstration by the Election Commission to representatives of various political parties. The inaugural use of EVMs took place during the general election in Kerala in May 1982; however, the absence of specific legislation prescribing their use led to the Supreme Court invalidating that election. Consequently, in 1989, the Parliament amended the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to formally incorporate provisions for the use of EVMs in elections. The adoption and application of EVMs in electoral processes represent a significant milestone in global democracy. They have ushered in greater transparency, efficiency, and trust in the electoral system. . . #ElectionTrivia #ElectionHabba #BEngaged #BPAC #BPACElectionHabba #Bengaluru #VoterIDCard #LokSabhaElections2024 #DemocracyRising #ElectionHabba2024 #VoteMaadiBengaluru #LokSabha2024 #IncredibleDemocracy Kiran Mazumdar Shaw Revathy Ashok Mohandas Pai Election Commission Of India Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka Sameer Shisodia RK Misra
