One of the key takeaway after my first months into the hospitality industry is that energy efficiency is one of the key challenges for Hoteliers. On one side, because of the energy crisis impacting directly their profitability and, on the other side, because it is a key component of their sustainability journey. Although the hospitality business contributes significantly to the global economy, it also has particular problems in terms of environmental and social effect. As worries about climate change and resource depletion mount, the need for sustainable practices in the hospitality industry becomes more pressing. Next week the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance is uniting our entire network of members and partners for our biggest event of the year – our 2023 Mainstreaming Net Positive Hospitality Summit!   What do we mean by ‘mainstreaming’?   Having launched our ambition of #NetPositiveHospitality almost two years ago – our #NetPositive vision, #Pathway and #impact, have been at the core of every Alliance project, programme and tool. And yet, beyond our network, the majority of companies are focusing largely on reaching #NetZero, and in fact, many aren’t even taking steps towards that goal.   Our vision and action needs to go beyond having ‘zero’ impact and look towards what we can give back to #people, to #communities, to the #destination and to the #planet as a whole. Working for a company that has such a strong focus on CSR and ESG initiatives provides me with a tremendous amount of pride and passion.
