Formula Student Acceleration WORLD RECORD!! 🚀 The DUT23 broke the world record for the fastest acceleration time at a Formula Student competition with a time of 2.999 seconds at Formula Student East. This was completed with a full competition spec and scrutineered car. We would like to thank once again our partners and supporters, without whom this record would never have been achieved! 💙 At the acceleration event, the car covers a distance of 75 meters from standstill, with a power limit of 80 kW. When crossing the finish line, the DUT23 was doing 122.45 km/h. With our time of 2.999 seconds, we are the first team in Formula Student history to break the 3 second barrier at a FS competition! 🏎️ For more information, please watch 'Formula Student East 2023 TV - Day 5' on YouTube (https://lnkd.in/eU2VNT9N). We would like to extend our appreciation towards the organization of Formula Student East, for letting us use their footage for this video. 🤝 - #formulastudent #fseast #fseast2023 #race #car #racecar #engineer #innovation #design #technology #development #team #f1 #formula1 #explore #sport #motorsport #electric #competition #drive #university #delft #tudelft #dut23

I think it's fair to say that the UK is the de facto lead in motorsport engineering and we need to support that position so that we have a sustainable future for motorsport. There are two streams in engineering - 1. Academic - students wanting to do design, development and research, 2. Vocational/Practical - the 'Hands On' side, the mechanics and engineers who set the cars up, prepare the cars, rebuild them after accidents - the team members you see outside the garages doing the pitstops in F1. There is a serious shortage of suitable engineers, but particularly on the practical side. We have been advised that in July 2025 funding for the two mainstream 'motorsport' vocational qualifications is being withdrawn. We have heard that this is due to them not being able to demonstrate sufficient take up of careers in the motorsport sector. The reason for that is that they are not delivering the correct skills. SCU Motorsport undertook 10 months of research in 2019, supported by Ufi VocTech Trust, talking to race team managers and mechanics in WEC, ELMS, British GT, F4 and many other series to validate our approach. We also spoke to race car manufacturers and the supply chain and the unanimous feedback is that they would not take on students that had just completed either of the two mainstream qualifications. Why wasn't any analysis undertaken before making a decision to withdraw funding? Surely it would make more sense to understand the problem and address it - that is what SCU Motorsport have done and we constantly get feedback on our programme "that is what is needed". We are writing a qualification based on the feedback from the motorsport sector. We are in discussions with an awarding body for them to become our accreditation body. This is a sector that delivers £10 Billion to the UK Economy - struggling to get engineers with the right experience and skills, students who want to enter the motorsport sector and the funding to support this is being withdrawn. We will continue to develop our qualification based on the overseas interest we have. #fia #motorsporteducation Photo credit to GOV UK.

I want to be a race car driver! No, not really, but I'm sharing a great article from SAE International (Society of Automobile Engineers) about one of my favorite clients, Kevin Boehm Racing. In addition to being a class-act organization made up of outstanding individuals, Kevin's story is one that every kid who is struggling to figure out what they want to be, should hear. It's a story about how passion, hard work and a random conversation with a guy at a racetrack can change everything and pave the way to becoming a championship winning race car driver that just happens to also be an exceptionally talented engineer and an all around great guy. The Journey: From Engineer to Champion: Kevin didn't start his career behind the wheel. He's an incredibly talented engineer who leverages his expertise to optimize every aspect of his racing performance. Dedication Defines Him: Kevin's journey wasn't paved with overnight success. It's a story of relentless effort, countless hours honing his skills, and an unwavering commitment to his dream. Inspiration for All: Kevin's story transcends the racing world. It's a powerful message for anyone, regardless of their aspirations. It reminds us that passion, perseverance, and a growth mindset can unlock incredible potential. What drives your passion? What seemingly impossible dream are you chasing? Share your story in the comments below! #inspiration #dedication #hardwork #engineering #racing #nevergiveup #dreamscometrue #kevinboehmracing P.S. Systems Engineer and Race Engineer | Specialized in Concept and Development of ADAS Systems | Experienced in motorbike performance
🚀 #InteractionMonday 🚀 Exploring parallels in #SystemsEngineering and #Motorsport: each field teaches us the art of balancing universal principles with specific demands. Today, I want to share insights on this balance. 🤔 In our MBSE work, the challenge often lies in determining the right level of detail, adapting standard processes to each project based on stakeholder needs. It's about capturing the essence in Use Cases, tailoring processes in activities, and detailing interactions in sequence diagrams to the specific requirements of each project. In motorsport, we face a similar balancing act. 🏍️ On the track, we start with a general setup for the season, but unique characteristics of each circuit and rider require specific adjustments. This is a topic we'll delve into further because it has its own intricacies, much like in systems engineering, where a model sometimes needs tailoring to meet particular requirements or stakeholder taxonomy. This intersection teaches us the value of adaptability - whether tweaking a system or adjusting a motorcycle for each new challenge. 💡 How do you navigate the balance between general strategies and specific 💡 Do you also adapt your processes to each project, or do you prefer to stick to what you know will work, be it processes or configurations? Share your approach, whether in systems engineering or on the race track! #MBSE #SystemEngineering #Motorsport

Getting young engineers excited about Knorr-Bremse - an important goal of our promotion of young talents! 💪 As an official partner of the "Formula Student Germany" design competition, Knorr-Bremse is now supporting six teams in their quest for pole position. Both financially and with technical know-how. Every year, teams from all over the world compete with their racing cars in the "Formula Student" competition. 🥇 The proud winners of this year's "Formula Student Germany": the Knorr-Bremse-sponsored racing team Ecurie Aix - Formula Student Team RWTH Aachen e.V. 🎉 Yesterday, the winning team visited the Knorr-Bremse site in Munich. 📍 The students were very enthusiastic when they were given a tour of the prototype construction and our test rigs, and then talked to Knorr-Bremse employees - some of whom had themselves studied at RWTH Aachen University. 👉 In the "Formula Student" competition, students design and build formula racing cars which then qualify for various races and compete against national and international teams. However, it is not the team with the fastest car that wins, but the one with the best overall package of technical design, racing performance, financial planning and sales arguments. 💡 #FormulaStudentGermany #TeamKnorrBremse
