We're really pleased to see how U.S. cities are leading the way toward the wider adoption of electric vehicles. Eager to meet their goals of reducing carbon emissions, cities are going electric faster than the private sector, according to a report by E&E News published by Scientific American. Our Bmax business is dedicated to reducing costs and improving efficiency across the heavy-duty EV market. Using proprietary pulsed power tools, Bmax crimps the high-voltage cables that sustain high powered electric vehicles, creating the most robust and durable connection available on the market today. Typically, cities have started by buying light- and medium-duty vehicles such as sedans and pickups. But a growing number of specialized trucks are coming onto the market, including battery-powered trash trucks and fire engines, according to the article. The city of Boise, Idaho, rolled out an electric Zamboni last year for an ice-skating center. Cities are learning fast about how to use EV tax incentives that were passed over the last four years. Dallas, the ninth-largest U.S. city, this month announced an agreement with Ford Pro, the company's commercial-vehicle division, to buy $9.5 million worth of charging equipment over 10 years, along with 100 EVs a year. Last week we announced our brand new residential #EV charger purchase and installation rebate program, now open to eligible customers in northern Illinois. Today at the Chicago Auto Show, we shared that we’re launching two more new rebate programs this month for business and public sector customers: a rebate program for the purchase of EV vehicles and fleets; and a rebate program for the expansion of public charging access. These three rebate programs are part of our larger investment to help accelerate an equitable adoption of #ElectricVehicles in northern Illinois. “Working with our partners in northern Illinois, ComEd is committed to helping customers benefit from zero emissions vehicles, which can significantly reduce pollution and enhance air quality for all residents across our communities,” said Erica Borggren, our VP of customers solutions. “Through new targeted incentives, we are aiming to accelerate the transition toward all-electric fleets, cars, buses and trucks, while at the same time catalyzing the buildout of a regional network of public EV charging to serve more customers – a key factor to growing EV adoption equitably.” Not only do #EVs offer fuel and maintenance cost savings and performance benefits, but #OurCommunities can experience environmental improvements from reduced tailpipe emissions. Electrifying transportation — including cars, trucks and public transit fleets — can also create tangible health benefits for all families across northern Illinois, especially communities which have traditionally borne the brunt of climate change and air pollution. Indiana is paving the way for the future of electric vehicles! I’m insanely excited about this. The Hoosier State is set to become the first in the U.S. to have a highway segment that wirelessly charges EVs as they drive. This groundbreaking project, a collaboration between the Indiana Department of Transportation, Purdue University , and Cummins Inc.,will begin construction soon in Tippecanoe County¹. This initiative promises to revolutionize the EV industry by addressing one of the major drawbacks of electric vehicles—range anxiety. Imagine driving your EV and never worrying about running out of charge again! Keep an eye on this exciting development and consider the potential impact on your business or daily commute. Indiana's move could be the spark that ignites a nationwide transformation in EV infrastructure. Let's get charged up for a sustainable future! Stay tuned for more updates on this electrifying project! 🔌🚘¹²³ Source: Conversation with Bing, 4/6/2024 (1) Indiana, Purdue building first EV-charging highway segment in US - IndyStar. https://lnkd.in/gUcSVZ_V. While 50% of car sales by 2025 maybe be EVs, it’s important to examine how this may affect public transportation. Focusing too much on the EV revolution may steal the thunder from the transformation of urban planning to reduce less reliance on cars. In particular, less spending on fuel will result in local and federal governments collecting less tax, meaning they will have less resources for public transport spending. It’s important to acknowledge the benefits of EVs but also the various impacts they will have on wider mobility. #EV #Mobility

Interesting perspective on the potential hidden costs of electric vehicles… This article raises a valid concern about the weight of EVs and its potential impact on infrastructure. How long until we see the weight of EVs as a factor in the collapse of a parking structure? #ElectricVehicles #Infrastructure #Sustainability

I give credit to the Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, for getting out on the road to experience life with an EV firsthand, talking to people at Town Hall meetings along the way. "She often put up a photo of New York City in 1900, full of horses and carriages, with a single car. Then another slide: 'Thirteen years later, same street. All these cars. Can you spot the horse?'" We are living through a massive change in transporation that hasn't been seen in a long, long time. Complex with lots of interrelated parts that aren't neatly tied up right now? Absolutely. But EVs are likely to grow and merge onto the highways and byways of America more and more. The investment and momentum are strong. Smart people are working on many of the issues raised in this story. Battery range will improve, new battery materials are in development, more chargers will be installed where they are needed, and skilled technicians will keep that equipment updated and operating. I have seen and learned about some of this work firsthand. A lot of the sensationalized hype is just that and this conversation is bound to look very different in 3-5 years. #evehicles #futuremobility

Capital Project Improvement - I help leaders raise the value of their biggest projects without trade-offs
Take a guess What’s the #1 reason people give for not wanting an EV? It’s called Range Anxiety - the concern of getting stranded if the battery dies in the middle of nowhere. Indiana has come up with a plan to change this, or charge this. The DoT and Purdue University have installed the first pilot for a wireless system that would charge vehicles while driving. Think a wireless cell phone charger, but built into the road. Not a bad step for the “Crossroads of America”. Beyond your personal commute, this technology may have the most potential for long-haul trucks. It won’t be open for public use for at least another year, and there are still many kinks to work out (like who pays for your car’s charge), but it is an exciting development. What do you think about the new “electric roads” idea? Comment below! https://lnkd.in/gqD5iJb7 #EVs #energytransition #batteries

Seattle Needs To Charge Up For Electric Trucks And Buses, Says New Study Seattle’s roads are poised for a clean revolution, but a new report warns the city needs to prepare its charging infrastructure for a surge of electric buses, delivery trucks, and other commercial vehicles. The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) released a study titled “Powering Seattle Fleets: A Charging Infrastructure Strategy for Battery Electric Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles.” It predicts a dramatic rise in electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (MHDVs) by 2040, driven by falling battery costs and stricter environmental regulations. This shift presents a challenge for Seattle City Light, the city’s electric utility. The ICCT report highlights the need […] - https://lnkd.in/dXe3xFmu #automotive #evs #ev #electricmobility #emobility #ebikes #fleets #evfleet #evnews #autonews #electricvehicles #electricvehicle #automotiveindustry #automotivejobs #cleantech #cleanenergy #hydrogen #lithium #evbattery #sustainability #climatechange #electricbuses #electrictrucks #electricvehicles #ev #evchargingstation #internationalcounciloncleantransportation #seattle #usa
