The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, born from a grassroots exhibition, has become a global leader in LGBTQIA+ art preservation in the past 55 years. We are honored to partner with this institution through the incorporation of our World chairs into their recent office renovation. These chairs, recognized for their ergonomic innovation, reflect the museum’s commitment to progress and inclusivity. Just as the Leslie-Lohman Museum’s collection challenges societal norms, our World chairs redefine comfort in the workplace. Together, we celebrate artistic expression and the power of thoughtful design. Happy Pride Month from Humanscale - click on the link to read the full ELLE Decor article! https://lnkd.in/emnwzQWW

Here in #Doral, DORCAM (Doral Contemporary Art Museum) stands as a catalyst for learning, creativity, and the binding of a community. Through exhibitions and events that transcend the traditional confines of art, architecture, visionary design, industry, and technology, DORCAM opens its doors wide, inviting not just the connoisseur but the curious, the unseen, the wanderer, and the everyman. In its mission, DORCAM seeks to reflect the nationalities that call Doral home. We are not here to cater to the compliant and the conventional. It is here, where barriers dissolve, and the free exchange of ideas flourishes, each program a dialogue, each piece a conversation. Membership at DORCAM is a bridge, not a gate. It offers a spectrum of #engagement, making it possible for YOU to become part of this community. Members are more than advocates; they are the heartbeat of the #museum, present at virtual receptions and incorporated in every event. They are not just spectators but participants in the ongoing story of DORCAM. Looking ahead, DORCAM approaches their vision of a permanent home in Doral, a sanctuary where #art and #community converge. This future space promises to be more than a museum where residents and visitors alike can immerse themselves in the rich, #artistic heritage of the world. Become part of a community that celebrates art in all its #rebellious forms. Explore our membership options and find your place within DORCAM. Together, we can cultivate a culture of learning and unity that defies the clichéd. And as we move forward, keep your eyes peeled for our Midyear Review of 2024! It will be a bold reflection on the achievements and events that have shaped #DORCAM this year. 💬🎨🎶🎞📸🌠

A beautiful application of restorative practices in the architecture space. Thinking of Designing Justice + Designing Spaces (https://lnkd.in/eDEZqTTd) as I read this.
Have you heard of Restorative Practices in Architecture? 🏛️ The Kansas City Museum has recently unveiled a renovation plan for the museum’s historic Beaux Arts conservatory, which will transform into the "JewelHouse" conservatory, "a site-responsive architectural meditative space that celebrates and pays tribute to women."⭐🌙 ☀️ "JewelHouse will house educational and public programs to highlight untold stories of women across generations, through storytelling, music, dance, panels and more.” Read the full article here! https://bit.ly/3tn7JQz #IIRP #RestorativePractices #KansasCityMuseum #RPinArchitecture

An insightful piece on museums and the experiences of Africans enslaved in the United States, particularly in New England from Erika Slocumb, MS, an emerging expert on this topic: "How can historic house museums interpret important content when those events did not unfold on-site? Using several historic house museums as case studies, we consider how–and importantly, why–to address stories of enslavement and freedom, including the ties many wealthy northerners had with slave economies, and the lived experience of formerly enslaved people and their descendants in the communities that surround these sites."

For the Architectural Record, Andrew Holder of the LADG | LA Design Group, Inc. describes his office's exhibition design for Eternal Medium: Seeing the World in Stone at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and asks, "As a model for architecture, can the white cube be repurposed to center artifacts, be earnest, include things that originate outside the exhibition, and allow those things to represent themselves as entities separate from the context of the institution? Further, can it do this while retaining something of its power?" https://lnkd.in/eTkuGgyM

What better item to practice on but this icon of a calculator. The Braun calculator has become an icon of modern design, launching countless imitators over the decades and essentially establishing the design standard of a pocket calculator’s form. As a mark of its reputation, it can be found in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Today is International Day of Happiness!😊 We asked a handful of our designers a few questions about happiness in the museum and design field... 1. What’s the happiest exhibition you’ve ever designed, and what elements made it so joyful? 2. What brings you happiness in design? 3. What role do you think design plays in promoting happiness and well-being within museum spaces? 4. What brings you joy working at Mather & Co? Share your input on these questions in the comments! 🙌 #internationaldayofhappiness #happiness #wellbeing #design #museumdesign #wellbeingdesign

🏛️ Heritage museum reconstruction project requirements are full of contradictions! 🔳 🔲 ⚫️ Design an appealing space - new space, new horizons ⚪️ Design a neutral space - the exhibit takes center stage ⚫️ Intervening - conteporary exhibitions demand contemporary spaces ⚪️ Not intervening - the curent structure are under strict protection! ⚫️ Expanding capacities for museum exhibits and storage ⚪️ Staying within the size limits - expansion is not possible due to heritage protection Finiding a solution means playing for "both teams". In the case of the project we are currently working on, the "circulation scheme" was one of many spacial studies that confirmed the plan is "working." ⬆➡⬇⬅ What challenges should we be prepared for? #MuseumReconstruction #DesignDilemmas #InnovativeSolutions
