Congratulations to the WestEnd Connectors Construction on the second and final breakthrough at the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension Project.
After approximately 25 month of mining two 6.58m #Herrenknecht EPB shields completed both tunnels of the alignment for Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario.
The extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT will run 9.2 kilometers from the future Mount Dennis LRT station to Renforth Drive and will operate mainly underground.
Once complete, it will create a continuous rapid transit line that stretches from Scarborough, through midtown Toronto, and into Mississauga.

Tunneling on the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension is now complete!
The extension will create a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga and provide significant relief to our roadways by taking 6.5 million cars off the road.
Did you know that the new Cross River Rail station at Albert Street will not only become Brisbane's most central CBD station, the new station is also located purposefully closer to the Queen Street Mall, with one station entrance just a few steps away and the main station building on the corner of Albert and Mary Streets.

I need to post more about Rocklin and the awesome things going on in our community, here is one cool project that is finally completed. This unsolicited video was just shared with me (produced by Hurdle) about our roundabout project.
At the intersection of Pacific Street and Rocklin Road we are surrounded by 3 commercial properties and 1 vacant property. When traffic models showed that we were going to need to expand the intersection by adding additional left turns and right turns to handle future growth, it gave us an opportunity to look at other options that wouldn't be as impactful on the adjacent businesses long-term. Modeling a roundabout, it gave us the opportunity to push the center of the intersection towards the vacant parcel which minimized significant property takes (ultimately all 3 businesses would have been required to be purchased in whole if we stayed with a signalized intersection due to the property takes associated with lane expansion). We were also able to tap into a unique federal funding source because of how the roundabout flows and creates less vehicle idling and therefore reduces emissions: Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement Grant Program. Roundabouts eliminate the right angle collisions in an intersection which make them safer. I heard someone say years ago when we were constructing the other two roundabouts, "with roundabouts you'll more likely need a tow truck and not an ambulance."
For drivers confused with roundabouts here is my simple advice: SLOW DOWN and YIELD to Pedestrians when approaching the roundabout, YIELD to traffic on the left when entering the roundabout, and YIELD to pedestrians when exiting the roundabout.
Kudos to Keith Jukes and Kimley Horn (https://lnkd.in/dHyR_VJV) for design, Matt McClure and Mark Thomas (https://www.markthomas.com) for project and construction management, and George Reed's team for construction (https://www.georgereed.com)!
Thanks to the adjacent businesses and residents of Rocklin for their patience during the construction process... These types of projects in the middle of town, on two major arterial roadways, are never easy or convenient.
It would be remiss of me not to remind all our customers and suppliers that Northland (and Northland Interiors) are open for business over the next few months while SH1 at the Brynderwyn Hills is closed.
The road will be closed from 26FEB24 and reopen for Easter (28MAR to 02APR) then close again 03APR to 13MAY24.
There are multiple links (some below) for details showing the detour routes to get you to the winterless north for work or holiday and the magnitude of the work being undertaken.
The tail of Cyclone Gabrielle is long, but the Taniwha are strong. Northland needs urgent long term infrastructure planning to enable regional growth as well business & reliable road & rail transport links. This closure period, while welcome to manage repairs in the short term following a specific weather event in the region, underlines the need for the development of a long term strategy that is not subject to the whims of the parliamentary cycle.
I look forward to the ongoing support of our customers suppliers who continue to help us “Transform Spaces”.
