“You can’t lose your ticket if it’s your face” 😄 This is what iProov's LinkedIn post announcing the launch of Eurostar SmartCheck says. In what is said to be historic first for train travel, Eurostar business class passengers traveling from London’s St Pancras will be able to skip ticket and security check queues through facial biometric verification. They will have to download the iProov app, confirm their identity by entering the required details, and link their tickets at least 24 hours before departure. 🎫🕒 At the train station, they will just have to walk through the dedicated SmartCheck lane at normal speed and an x-ray machine will scan their face. Service which is limited for business travelers will prevent users from standing in the ticket, and British passport control queues. The project has the scope to ensure smooth and hassle-free cross-border travel where passengers don’t have to stand in long security and ticket queues. ✈️🚆🌐 As Eurostar C.E.O Gwendoline Cazenave, told TNW, “We wanted to show that seamless, automated cross-borders are not just science fiction — they’re now a reality”. A major concern with biometrics verification is possible data security breaches and data surveillance. 🕵️♂️🛡️🔐 However, as per Eurostar data, in this case, remains in the smartphones of users and is only shared with Ticket Gate and Passport Control officials. As Andrew Bud CBE FREng FIET Chief Executive Officer of iProov said, “The information all flows through the airport backbone, so your face and identity data are controlled by the airlines and the facial verification system in the airport, In this case, it’s sitting in your phone.” The seamless ID verification process, if successful, may transform cross-border train travel for the better. James Gillard stated, “We've all spent far too much time in long queues waiting to board a plane or a train, so adopting this globally would be a huge game changer and a much-improved experience for all travelers!" So far, the Eurostar SmartCheck launch has been hailed by many associated with ID verification. 👏 Jim Slevin, regional director of ReadID by Inverid, said in a LinkedIn post, “Eurostar has implemented the model for cross-border travel (for all modalities) through proven, secure, self-service passenger pre-registration and verification, via their smartphones to meet regulatory requirements and enhance the passenger experience.” 👍 ID verification technologies are not needed by the financial sector only to do KYC checks. Devices that are updated will be resistant to exploitation attempts. Use the data encryption features that are available on most devices to prevent the exposure of information if a device is lost or stolen.   📱 Depending on your risk profile, consider traveling with alternate devices that do not contain any sensitive personal or business data.   🔒 Obtain a Virtual Private Network (VPN) subscription to maintain privacy for while using public WiFi access points. It encrypts your internet connection, and your safeguarding sensitive information from prying eyes.   🗺 Download map data for the cities you will visit. This will allow you to navigate without using cellular data. I also download some podcasts, and videos for entertainment on the flights. This reduces the need for connecting to potentially insecure public networks.   🛫 While Traveling: Be mindful of what you share on social media. Avoid broadcasting your exact location in real-time, to reduce the risk of being targeted.   🔎 Use Bluetooth trackers to keep track of luggage and help locate items if they are lost.   📄 Protect your trip details and boarding pass. Do not post photos of your boarding pass. Threat actors could obtain your trip's record locator and your frequent flyer account number. This information can be used to change your itinerary or even cancel your flight. Digital security is as crucial as packing your bags! Stay safe and enjoy your travels! 🌍🔒
